real original US made strats from 1954 - approx 1980 were 7 inches - the modern "vintage" 7.25 came in with the USA reissues in about 1982 - the *** fender reissues got it correct at 7 inches - easy to check .. take the nut out of an original guitar and assuming noboy has tampered with the nut slot it is always 7 inches - try and put in a premade 7.25 replacement nut and it rocks about. well it has done on the alomost 300 old strats i have worked on maybe the other 40,000 are different !!???
