Taking a look around the internet I did see them advertised at Sweetwater so presume they weren't just imported for the European market. Bit more info, they come only in Daphne Blue, Surf Green or Fiesta Red and have painted headstocks.
Update on this, we've just finished a band practice and he noticed a lot of brown stain had come off the fretboard onto his fingers...bit strange?
