I had the same problem with a MIM Robert Cray I bought the first year of production.

I cleaned the board a few times then oiled it and its fine now. Never noticed any discoloration? I also assumed it was a dye to darken a lighter rosewood. But after cleaning and oiling it I can't seem to notice any difference.
