I need a good practice amp
Small enough to sit on my computer desk or nightstand. Something that sounds decent. Something that won't break my wallet. Sometimes I like to jam along with youtube or something and don't want to plug into my rig. What you guys recommend?

little practice amp
I used to have a little pig nose that was pretty amazing for its little size. Presently, I really like my Roland micro cube very much, and it runs on batteries, too. Yesterday, I pulled off the interstate to walk my dog, and stopped at little cemetery. There was no one (living in the material world) around and I plugged in and made some noise. Very fun! The micro cube has a footprint of about a square foot.

Another vote for the Microcube. I've had one a little over 4 years, and it's a fun little amp.

MicroCube or Vox DA5 seem to be the two small practice amps with the best reputations.

Well, before I could get the Cube, I put my Bose L1 I tower on Craigslist because I need a bigger PA since I'm going from solo acoustic to full band gigs. I almost immediately got a call from a guy who had a nice new PA and a Marshall TSL601 amp that he would trade for it. So, now I have a nice all tube 3 channel combo for my "bedside" practice amp (and a pretty killer PA).

I like my Fender Amp Can a lot. Probably 75% of my playing at home is through the Amp Can. It has a pretty decent tone. The distortion setting is not the greatest but it's OK. The built-in rechargeable battery holds a charge for a really long time. Once it's charged you can carry it around to any convenient location.

I have a Microcube and really like it. I used it on some scratch tracks on my myspace page in fact. For $100 you've got a lot of choices.

I had a microcube and while it is small and convenient, the farting sounds coming from that small speaker were just too much to handle for my ears! I sold it after a month and picked up a VOX ADVT30 (slightly bigger and a 10" speaker). Still small enough for my practice sessions on the deck during the summer but has much better tones and specs than the micro-cube. I got a good deal on a used one for $100; sold my Microcube for $75..........
