Question about cabs/speakers

I am curious about what would be my best bet (for a cab/speaker config) for a couple of different sounds I am going for:

I want a 212 cab with the best possible low end sound I can get. I'll be running mostly strats through a clean amp. I'm pretty sure I should start by looking at a closed back cab, but which one? Speakers? Whadaya think? I don't care if it's 20 bux or 2000 bux.

ALSO, the other one I want will be the exact opposite. Something more directed towards mids and highs. Also a 212, preferrably an open back cab.

Thanks in advance for any help...

I sometimes disconnect my (open backed Fender) Blues Jr from its speaker and plug the amp into a closed backed Cornford 212 loaded with Vintage 30's. That really thickens up a "presence dominated" amp darkening the sound.

I've only ever tried one extension cab loaded with 12's and it was an Avatar G12. Great tones and not too expensive.

I've been thinking, and one option would be to go with thaus' suggestion of Avatar. Get your self unloaded open back and closed back of your style preference and then have fun with the speakers. If you're playing clean, get yourself a pair of Alnico Golds as one of your options (50W each); read the reviews...if I wasn't just about to buy a Matchless (and hence broke and risking divorce!) I'd buy some golds to run in the Cornford or in my Twin.

Yes. I am going to get both cabs from him, but I don't have the money to just buy a bunch of speakers and play around (I wish). I'll be running through a Hiwatt Custom 50, both cabs at the same time. I guess I can read reviews to see which speakers have better low end, and which have better mids and highs.
