LB, do you have other 12" speakers to try with the head ? There are just so many variables that come into play. The other Epi amp you mentioned in the OP, does it have a 12 " in it ?

I recently bought a trio of different brand 12AX7s to try out in my old Sunn head, after reading some comments here & in other threads as well. I found they can make a big difference, & some only a minor diff. I'm still selling the Sunn, it's just too loud & heavy, but I've got a batch of diff tube types I can experiment with in my other amps, & @ $10-15 apiece, wasn't a terribly pricey way to make a quick mod on any tube amp...and without a long term commitment to any one change.

I do recommend trying the Electro Harmonix tube, if your amp isn't already so equipped. Nice punchy tone.

Here are some photos of my highly modified Hell Junior! I did most of the bitmo mods including attaching the attenuator to the back of the amp. This continues to be an amazingly great sounding amp that will make you happy when you play through it. Low cost, great tone and lots of fun...also not heavy! Love mine!

Anyone using the B-verb? That looks like something I need. I'd also like an input for backing tracks off my iPhone.

Billy, I love the "Rocking - Not Rocking" sticker near the on/off switch. That's classic!

Sadly that nice Eminence speaker had to go with the amp when I traded it in for the new VJ cab. I don't have any other speakers laying around. I'm getting a new cabinet today (pics later). It's possible that I might buy another speaker in the future to test out. We'll see.

I've got the version 3 combo with the Mercury Magnetics mod... man... that baby sings. I highly endorse these amps and the mods you can do on these things really brings out some good stuff.

Sadly though, I've got mine for sale. So, if you're interested, PM me.
