So what do you plug into?

Howdy folks! So what are you all plugging your Strat or other guitars into?

Here's mine: an AmpTramp BF/Plexi 'Woody', 10 watt, single ended, EL34 driven, combo with two channels. One side is classic blackfaced based, and the other plexi based. Runs a 12" Weber 1265 speaker. Separate eq's, gain and master volume. Handbuilt by a friend of mine. She's a one of a kind!

I'm currently using a couple of silverface Fenders...a Princeton Reverb and a Champ.

The PR is loaded with a Reverend Alltone and had the Stokes mod before I received it. It's the perfect amp for me.

The Champ is sporting a Weber Sig8S AlNiCo that I just put in a few weeks ago. I haven't really had time to break it in yet, but I'm very happy so far. I also have a 2x10 cab loaded with a couple of very old Rola AlNiCos that I run the Champ through a lot...the combination is absolutely killer.

i have a peavey classic 30 with a mix of sovtek's and groove tubes in the preamp and groove tubes in the power section, and an eminence swamp thang in place of the stock speaker. sounds good, but i still want a fender blues deville or a bassman. it's my first and only tube amp and a far cry from what it replaced... a fender ultra chorus (which i still have).

Within the last two weeks, I purchased a mid 80s Peavey VT Classic. 50 watts, two 12's, a pair of 6L6 GC's in the power amp section with a solid state pre-amp. It has a clean sound that I really enjoy. I'm still exploring my options for getting a good dirty sound out of it.

For the Strat I actually prefer my Marshall JMP 50 plexi combo, because it has more gain on the first channel than the Fender Bassman. But the Strat plugged into the Fender Bass channel offers enough distortion most of the time (except for heavier ZZ Top rhythm parts), especially with more treble and presence than 0 which is my usual Les Paul setting.

At home and in small clubs I use my Mesa Boogie Mark IIB with self-built EVM-12L Thiele cab though, because it also sounds good at low volumes.

DRRI. I might sell it to purchase a Vox AC30CC head.

1965 Princeton Reverb
I owned all these (plus a Vox AC-15 reissue, two '65 Vox Cambridge Reverbs one tube and one solid state and a 1968 Pro Reverb)... but then sold all but the Princeton Reverb
The Deluxe Reverb is a DRRI and I never really liked it. The '65 Champ was a fun little toy but I sold it because I never played it after getting the PR.

The PR has a 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in a repo aged baffle/grill/logo from Rogers (the original 10" baffle/grill is safely stored away).

I have almost as many amps as I have guitars. They are all very different, and I use them for different jobs.

Fender SF Champ - great for all kinds of stuff

Fender SS Bronco - I use this when I teach guitar class

Fender Princeton Chorus DSP - for jazz, and other things, very versatile

Vox Pathfinder SMR15 mini-stack, 2 x10 cab, fun toy

Crate V3112T - for when it's time to get serious, great for jazz, blues, rock...everything.

Crate Vintage Club 5212 -- for those times when only an 80 pound amp that's never not too damn loud will do

Let's see:

-early '60s Gibson Falcon that I inherited from my Dad. Sweet old amp.

-'97 Fender Blues Junior. Sounds great and has never given me some of the problems I read about on other forums. Swapped the original tubes for JJs from Eurotubes a couple of years ago and that is about it.

-mid '60s Kalamazoo Model 2. Nice little 5-watter that was Gibson's budget line.

-early 2000s Line Six Spider 210. I got it mainly to run my drum machines through, but I do mess with the modeling stuff occasioanally. Sounds pretty good for a solid state, actually.

-mid-90s Fender Mini-Twin. The amp I use when I play electric guitar on the couch. I have used it when travelling, too.

-future: I have been GASsing for a Peavey Classic 30 or Delta Blues lately.

I use a 1980s Marshall JCM 800 50-watt Lead 1x12 combo. a 1950s Regal lap steel 1x8 combo amp and a Roland Cube 30 modeler. Really liking the lightness and versatility of the Roland.

1982 "Dan Smith" Stratocaster, only modified with replacement pickups - Joe Barden Standard Strat pups - played into...

...1970 Fender Bassman head custom built into a 2x10 cabinet, using Celestion Vintage 30 10"speakers.

I always play through the normal channel and never use the bright switch. Volume on 5, treble on 5 and bass on 7.

No effects pedals.

Marshall MG250DFX (100 watts)
has inbuilt effects that can be turned on and off on the footswitch. effects are: chorus, delay, flanger, chorus&delay together and reverb.
this does the job fine for me at the moment.

I plug my main guitar - an 82 Dan Smith Strat with the EMG DG-20 setup, Sperzel locking keys, vintage Fender steel trem, and jumbo frets into one of the following:

- 1976 SFDR - still a work in progress - I haven't grown to love this amp yet.
- 1966 BFVR - my main squeeze - handles any gig - indoors or out with ease - retubed, recapped, and reconed the original Jensen speakers
- 1966 BFTR - my old flame - I bought it from the original owner in 75 - just too doggone loud - I'm thinking of getting a power attenuator for it.
-1981 Peavey Heritage w/ Black Widow speakers - nearly 90 lbs of LOUD - my main amp for years - but now way too heavy - looking to sell it cause I just don't use it.

For gigging - I set whatever amp I'm using on a home-made "Enhancer" built by my steel player - they're sold commercially by Smith Sound Products Inc, but my guy built his own version - it's a combination amp stand/folded horn cabinet that takes the sound coming out of the back of an open back combo amp and directs it out the front of the stand. It's like plugging your amp into a much bigger cabinet and I'm hooked on it!! It's not heavy but it is bulky and hence a pain to haul around in my Ford Taurus - but worth it.

That is a sexy, sexy setup Bryan. Is that Hotplate for the Twin? Let me know because I've always wondered about that and what will happen if you try to crank the bejeezus out fo a TR and can live to talk about it. BTW, you probably have my all time favorite amp in my all time favorite color scheme. Very jealous!

As for me I play a TRRI on the weekends when it's allowed to be loud and my recently acquired Soldano Astroverb 16 1x12 combo. Not a bad amp at all I must say. It totally agrees with my TS-808!
