Hi, Im new to home recording and wondered, is it OK to post backing tracks i've taken from free sites, and added my guitar to.i don't want to fall foul of any rules. I've already posted one and feel free to remove it if it contravines any rules (it's not very good anyway as it's my first attempt)lol.

It depends on the copyright on the backing tracks, find out from where you downloaded them from?

Hey Ray I checked it out just out of curiosity. Nice control of those bends and vibrato.

Did you even look for the copyright?
Scroll down: Copyright 2010 GuitarBackingTrack.com
That's awfully easy to see.
But the good news is, it's not hosted here. So, It's not my worry at all.

I found this diclaimer on the site.

Hi,
welcome to the GuitarBackingTrack.com forums. Here you can discuss the site, backing tracks, music in general and whatever's on your mind. You can also request backing tracks.
The guitar backing tracks (BTs) on this site is intended for personal use. It's a supplement to guitar players worldwide, turning your bedroom into a full band jam session. While nothing is cooler than being in a band, every guitarist has to practice for themselves as well. With BTs you can play along to popular songs or jam along to cool grooves, without having to rely on band mates. The tracks are basically tunes with their guitars removed, making them perfect to playing along to. All tracks are made by regular guys and girls, and are used with their permission.
The BTs are currently available in flash with an online player. You'll need the flash plugin for it to work. Use the menu on top to navigate the bands or search using the search fields in the top right. When viewing a BT, click on the play button to play the track (it should start in a few seconds), the pause button to pause it, and the rewind button to return to the beginning of the song. I'm also working on a progress bar for the player and BTs will later on be available for download in MP3 format.
Please give me feedback on the site and the BTs, and any suggestions/comments/corrections are welcome.

Strat-Talk.... I agree with you, the copyright notice is there... However to be fair to the OP it's not very expanatory. It says they can played as flash format on the site or you can down load them as MP3's. It doesn't however say anything about how they can be used.
Seeing as they're free and are intended to be used as backingtracks, and they're not by the original artists I would suspect that you can do what you like with them.
Edit: Just read that disclaimer above. it was posted whilst i was typing my rather pointless response

The other thing i notice is that the tunes are a copy of original songs which guess what? are copywrite, so maybe the site itself is in violation as well.
