New guy in Cali.
Hey everybody. Just wanted to introduce myself. I just recently aquired a H1 hss. I got an amazing deal on it. I traded a Sony PSP and $50, and got a 2 year old guit. It aint pretty, as the original owner didn't take great care of it, but it plays like butter!
Anyways, it isn't my first strat. I had a USA std that was distroyed about 7 years ago. I have been playing for 12 years. I have also had a USA tele, numerous acoustics and currently an Ibanez AM73. I play through a Peavey Valveking 212 and a Marshall AVT 20. I am a pedal junkie. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to really support that habit.
What else? I am a fire inspector and a single dad. I love my job, but not nearly as much as my little girl.
Anyways, that's about it. I hope to gain some knowledge from you guys.
PS
Sorry if there are a lot of typo's. I am typing this from ipod.

Welcome from a fellow Californian!
How do you like you Valveking? I have a Line6 Vetta II which I really like, but would like to have a tube amp as I like pedals myself.

The Valveking is a good amp. There are a few things to consider before you get it though. It is LOUD. As with all tube amps, they sound best when you crank them. When they aren't loud, the sound is less than inspiring. Even if you get the 1x12 it is going to be loud, so if you mainly play at home in your bedroom, you may want something smaller. Also, and this is just my opinion, a tube change and speaker change is necessary. So, $100'ish to retube it with some JJ's and $200 for some new speakers, on top of what you pay for it. It gets expensive real fast. With out the changes it sounds good. With the changes, it sounds amazing. I got my Valveking in a trade for a Crate GX212 and a POD 2.0 w/floorboard, all that I bought like 9 years ago. So, I feel like I got a free tube amp. This helps me justify spending money on it. Oh, and after the upgrades, if you hook it up to an extra 2x12 cabinet...WOW.
What kind of music do you play?
It can hit newer metal with a little help and proper playing, but is definately not a new metal amp. Black Sabbath is effortless on this amp though.

Hi ya FireSGT911, Yeah there is nothing like the sound of a strat plugged into hot 6L6 tube amp.
Did you put a couple of celestion greenbacks in the valveking?

Thanks for the information and the tips! I can play loud at home...no problems there.
I play mostly metal, but am taking a guitar class and have been studying jazz and blues.

ThreeHands,
No greenbacks. They are rated at 25 watts and my amp is 100 watts. Hellatone 60's for me. They are Celestion Vintage 30's from Avatarspeakers.com. They break them in for you as well as some other stuff.
esphanneman,
Metal works, but is not the amps strongest genre(just insert your choice of OD pedal). Since you are doing some Jazz and Blues, it should work great.
Bangbang,
Like I said a little earlier, I am actually a Texan! Uncle SAM moved me to California several years back, where I knocked up my ex-old lady. I am pretty much stuck here now. I have learned to just make the best of it. Not where I want to be, but it is home.
Everyone else,
Thanks again for the very warm welcome. I like it here already!

Hi firesgt911, this is a coincidence. I moved to Austin from Arlington about 5 years ago. I still have a lot of family there.
