Yeah, the push pull sounds like a good idea.I just may have to do that. I have another strat a MIJ (blue one in my avatar) with maple neck. I'm thinking real hard about changing it over to a classic series 50's surf green. My brother paints cars so I think I'll have him paint it for me and get a 1-ply pickguard, aged pup covers and knobs, kluson style tuners. That color has really grown on me since I've seen it.
I haven't had any issues with it going out of tune also. Do you like the no. 4 pup position? I'm kind of on the fence with it. I have been debating whether to change it back to the standard switching or not.
