Not a big fan of relics but this one looks great!! Could be the colour or just the accurate placing of the areas that are worn........nice looking guitar! Love the colour and those PUPs will sound amazing I'm sure! Thanks for showing us this........

Hi Dion,
That looks like it is going to be a nice guitar. What a great way to start out at Strat Talk as well. First four posts are all of a new project. Good on ya' mate.

Best tip would be to finish it so you get to practicing!
Just keep posting pics of the progress and post any questions or sound clips that you have.

Body is a 2 piece Ash body, made in Washington state at GRGuitars.com
AllParts neck - solid maple, 1 5/8" nut, chunky C, 21 med. jumbos, 9 1/2" rad. Measures .976 at 1st fret, 1.045" at 12th fret. Nitro finished.
Lollar Dirty Blondes (n=Blonde,m=Blonde,b=Special) w/Suhr BPSSC
Fender Trem & Saddles, Kluson Tuners
Be encouraged folks it's basically a kit. I added a few dings here and there. Primarily wanted to check out what GRGuitars had to offer and an Allparts neck, so took the plunge. All in all have about $1200 in it.
More to come.....

She is Fini!
Got her done!----

Man, this thing really resonates, in a good way, all around very pleased. Only thing I'd change is the "relic" on the body was a bit overdone on the butt.
Shout out to Craig Landau of Landau Guitars in Harrisburg, NC for setting up the neck and action for me, being my first shot at this thought I'd get some pro help!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Beauty! Good amp and guitar combination as well.
If it's not to much trouble, how about a sound clip or two?

Wow, $ 1,200. That's a bit o money.
I keep trying to do it on the cheap, but it'll be $ 600 'fore she's done.
Trying to resist the impulse to finish up with Fender parts and see what the G + L Alnico Vs or will it be the Keystones sound like. That's just a middle Keystone hot wired in there Esquire style.

I'm not a big fan of relics but you look like you did a pretty good job on this one. And $1,200 is probably a lot less than Fender would charge you for something similar.
Me, I'll just keep buying mine already made. I don't have anywhere near the electrical or woodworking skills to pull something like that off but give you major props for doing such a great job.

Dion, Wow! That is a dynamite job on your's! The pic of it alongside the Deluxe amp is the "money" shot! Very nice! The tint on the neck looks great! And you didn't go overboard on the relic work which keeps it tasteful!
Nice job all the way around! I'd love to hear it.

I agree, for the $1,200 you put in and did it yourself (which makes it more meaningful to you as well), you probably saved some $1,700 to $1,800for a similar Custom Shop relic from fender. And your reports of how it sounds makes it a success. Again, it looks great too!

Good question... I think that's the preferred method. There's also the method seen on video that uses a a spray freeze (sort of like a refrigerant) followed by a heat gun held at a short distance away. That may be a bit harsh though in my estimation.

Great work Dion. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride and sharing the pics. I'm always ready to see some more of that!

Boris, I am going to do a similar thing. Following the led here from the Squier section, I am going to take both my daughter's bullet and the one I picked out for myself to Rob D. and have them "tweaked", as it were. That is when they get shipped to us...
