The Strat Stock Pick-Up Hum.

I have a 1 year old American Strat and it is quite noisy. I absolutely Love this Guitar but hate the noise. I have been checking the web and found a site called Guitar nuts.com. There are instructions on how to properly shield the electronics and get rid of most of the hum. I'm thinking of trying this method but thought I'd check to see if anyone out there has tried it. Did it work. Etc....
Or other that changing out the pick-ups is there another way.
Thanks

It did wonders for my MIJ Fender, and it's not too expensive.

Have you tried playing this guitar through a different amp?
Flourescents & computer monitors can be a problem too.

My problem was the really old wiring in my building.
Take your amp & axe to a friends house, to see if she still hums.

I do the upgrade even if I do change pickups.

Best of luck with youre project.

HUM.

I have used my Amp & Strat at different locations. My church was built in the 40's & we always have problems with interference. I have a little Fender practice Amp that I have plugged into as well and it still hums.
I'll go ahead and try the sheilding instructions. I was blessed because a salesman I buy from gave me a 36yd roll of copper tape with conductive adhesive. There is most of the cost.
Thanks for your input!

Personally, I have learned to live with single coil hum. I agree that it varies with amps, locations, and even -- I swear -- the weather, but that is part of the deal. With an American strat, however, you always have the option of going to the "notch" positions, the neck/mid and mid/bridge combos, because the middle pickups in US strats -- at least the Am Standard and Am Series -- are reverse wound.

I really noticed the hum again recently when I acquired a Classic 60s without the reverse wound feature, but I love the pickups and just got used to the hum. It never bothers me when I am playing, but if I get up to do something in my music room or answer the phone I just step on my Boss tuner to shut it up.

Anyway, good luck with the mod.

Mike

Your gonna have to keep me aprised as to that mod, and maybe I might do that to my Tele, especially since you got a 36 yard roll of copper tape! (the gentle rustling sound of your guitarist sneaking over to leach some of that copper tape from ya.....)

Yeah, I'll give you what you need to do the job!
The grounding instructions for your Tele are apparently a lot easier than the Strat.

Yeah, some noise is just a fact of life with the single coils, but sheilding definitely helps.

I'm also hearing glowing reports on the "Backplate Silent Singlecoil System"
from Suhr Guitars but methinks it might be a bit pricey.

Check it out at http://www.suhrguitars.com/pickups.aspx near the bottom of the page.
