GFS lil killer
I just finished installing a GFS lil killer hot (15k) in my MIM project. It really does have some bite. I have to mess around with it at all volumes (something I don"t get much of a chance to do) to see if I am going to connect it to a tone control. I can say this..the lil killer is a tremendous value at $25.
Just for the record it's a MIM body, Squier affininty neck...no shims required...neck had a slight bow...about 3/4 of a turn to tighted the truss rod and it's nice....set the action...plays great....intonation check next week.

I have a set in a Squier Strat I built. I believe the bridge is the best I've heard and I've used Seymour Duncans and DiMarzio's;
Depending what you use for pots and caps will determine what kind of Tone you get from the neck. There is a large difference in Ohms between the bridge 15, middle 10 and then the neck at 6-7.

The more I play it the more I like it. Great rock pick up. It's weak coil tapped.
A set is about $60 which is incredible.

the 15k in the bridge really rocks for all kinds of music but its way too hot to sound like a stratsingle coil . i love the sound for metal / i got the whole set but i replaced the mid and neck pickup for true single coils

i don't know what single coils to buy yet, but i'm afraid that the 15 k will be to hot for classic rock sounds like led zeppelin and stuff

I got a set in my MIM strat, and OMG!. They are more like full size humbuckers, perfect for Zeppelin. But now I must take 2 guitars, a strat and this one, cuz it no longer sounds like a strat. It is not too hot for classic rock, it sounds more like a les paul than a strat.

I'm thinking of upgrading the bridge PU in my 2000 Chinese Squier Strat with a Lil' Killer. I'd like to avoid having to adapt another pick guard which is why I'm thinking of a single coil sized humbucker. I guess at $25 I can't go too far wrong even if its not perfect, especially since I'm thinking of putting it in such a cheap guitar.
After playing it for a while do you think it can provide decent metal/hard rock tone?

It the best you can do short of a full humbucker. Mine has metal tones on end, of course you need a rectifier amp or model to go with it.

I've got a few different amps... Epiphone Valve Jr. into a homebuilt 1x12 cab. Fender Silverface Bassman into a homebuilt 4x12 cab and a Randall RG80ES into a 4x12 Crate cab. I have the following pedals... vintage 1970s Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, Danelectro D-3 FAB Metal and Danelectro D-2 FAB Overdrive.
In a perfect world it would be great to have a pickup in the guitar which I can get metal/hard rock tones direct into the amp, but I realize it is more realistic to assume that this setup will probably need either the Metal or maybe the Overdrive pedal, especially with the Valve Jr and Bassman.
