Pit Bulls, like any other dog, aren't inherently nasty. People make them, like any other dog, mean!

That's what they were born to do, and they love it! My dogs would run until they dropped if I didn't intervene. They are great people dogs, and love to please.

If I could only have one dog, it would be a Beagle!

I hope you guys dont think my dog is a pitbull lol he is a staffordshire bull terrier. Very different.A dogs characteristics are 100% down to the owner and the way they raise them. I had my Staff Charlie from five weeks old and he is as friendly as they come as thats how i brought him up. He plays with my three year old little brother and is no way a 'nasty' dog.

Pit Bulls are a mix of many breeds-a mutt if you will, whereas a "true" Staffordshire is bred to other registered ones for a pedigree crop of pups. They are 'Show' dogs fo sho!

Charlie has a great smile on that mug shot!

Mine are not pit bulls although they are commonly called them by people that dont know. The white one is a white boxer and the red is a Heinz 57 (mix of many breeds). Both are from the humane society.
Pit bulls have a bad reputation created by the media. There are good and bad dogs of every breed just as there are good and bad owners. To label a dog as aggressive due to only a breed is ridiculous. Upbringing and training are the biggest factors in a dogs behavior. Unfortunately pits were the dog of choice for many years of lower class people and they were not being treated or trained properly. It created some attacks and a media frenzy to make them look bad. Years ago it was dobermans that the media focused on. now it is the pit bulls turn. The media does not report about poodles biting people (happens much more often) only on the pit bull.
Many dogs are mislabeled by the media and police as pit bulls, just as those that dont know what mine are call them pit bulls. With all the breeds of dogs out there it is easier for them to call a dog incorrectly a pit bull in the report.

We let her out and she went to the bathroom, then came back to the door and sat down, waiting to be let back in. AWESOME. Already housebroken. ha ha. great dog. My wife and kid named her Baby. Whatever. ha ha

Although, sometimes I feel like I am the one dragging him on walks and such but oh well, who can resist that cute smile!

These folks might disagree with you...as do I.

American Pit Bull Terrier

Official Pit Bull Site of Diane Jessup

United Kennel Club: American Pit Bull Terrier

If you don't want to take time to read the links, the synopsis is the Staffordshire and the Pit come from and are the same dog. The AKC dropped the Pit Bull name to distance themselves from the sport of dog fighting.

Thanks for the comment, and links. In the 80's-90's I was around more than a few Pit Bull mix pups and full-growns both in the city, and at 'Animal Control'. And remembered that the Staffordshire owners/handlers that I met (when I owned/showed a White Bull Terrier) leaned away from using the words Pit Bull due to a negative connotation and preferred referring to them by their full descriptors to those unfamiliar: American Staffordshire Terrier, and American Pit Bull Terrier. I stupidly was thinking that the majority of those owners (those two breeds) avoided the 'Pit Bull' categorization, forgive the generalization on my part. I spent too many years in Memphis where lots of mixed breeds were called 'Pit Bulls' and were Heinz 57, and developed a dislike dog haters and people raising 'mean' dogs. I think lots of healthy, great dogs are just waiting to be adopted at shelters, humane society, and others.

Sugar is full blooded and akc registered. Her daddy has been featured in field and stream several times. We were lucky to get her. A local family was moving overseas and couldn't take her with them. They gave her to us for free.

cool. you got lucky. so did sugar. ha ha. thats WAY better than them leavin her at a pound or something. around here, we all think someone dropped off our dog at the pound because she got pregnant. when we got her, she had just been fixed, and still had milk... I would LOVE to have some puppies from her, but cloning is dangerous. (and expensive)
