ive been called a few times. sat on three juries, civil court. it can be boaring as hell, can be kinda interesting also.. was seated onna jury once and on day two realized i had been in the store that was being sued and personally witnessed the incedent that had been brough before the court this day. talk about karma. really sucked for the plaintiffs in this case. hehehe!!
also gotta grand jury summons once. things were so stressed and gone sideways in my life at the time i didnt remember it till months later. dont know why i wasnt sited for contempt of court. they mighta pulled my "known associates file" with the FBI and thought 'just as well' hehehe!! yeah. i gots me onea those too!.............laters...chuck

Permanent exemption here since I served on a jury in a capital case. Plus, I'm the primary caregiver for children under the age of 10, so I wouldn't have to go anyway.
But, I enjoyed jury duty the few times I served prior to the capital case. Always found it interesting.

A friend of mine used to say that he couldn't afford to vote. He was half-joking, but it was pretty much true, he didn't vote out of fear for his income. They used to take the names for jury duty from the voting roles around here.
He is a self-employed contract programmer. The rule in this state is "one day or one trial", whichever is longer. He was tapped for a murder trial that ended up going on for weeks. He tried to explain to the judge that he was working a contract he'd been on for a year, that if he was gone for weeks they'd have to replace him, he'd effectively lose not only all his income for the period of the trial but the source of income- he'd be pounding the pavement when he got out, effectively unemployed, with zero recourse (and no unemployment) since he hadn't been an employee.
The judge just asked him what he earned, laughed at the answer and denied his request. Apparently removing your livelihood is fine so long as you're not poor to begin with. That's exactly what happened- he lost the weeks of income, the contract, and the client, who was ticked off and talking about "non-performance"... as in lawsuit. From then on he was actually afraid to vote.
These days they no longer take the names just from voting registration, they hit the license databases and home ownership databases, so you can't escape it even by forfeiting your voting rights.

My wife got called up 3X before I got called the 1st time, last year. Filled out their questionnaire, sent it in, & when they didn't call me in, I called them to ask why...turns out being self-employed is a good excuse. #1 son (20-something) got called up earlier, got thru selection, then when they said the case was gonna involve lots of #'s & math, he held up his hand & told them he was lousy at math (he really is), & they let him go home, his duty done.

I have got the jury duty summons 7 times in the last 10 years. I always had a reason to opt out but I finally served a couple of months ago. Two weeks later I got another jury summons, I got out of that by already serving within the last calender year. $15 dollars a day to serve on a jury, my work would not pay me, wish I had worked that day. I just sat in a room for 8 hours waiting to be called in for a case and never did.
