Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's Stratocaster
Hi,
Im new to this forum, after much reading/research Im planning on buying a Squier CV, but I'm still trying to decide whether to get a 50's or 60's Classic Vibe Strat, I'm looking for the SRV, Jimmy Hendrix sound, I'd appreciate any feedback on which of these 2 guitars you prefer or think is better
thanks for your help

CV60s.
I bought the CV50s and wish now that I'd bought the CV60s. (Anybody wanna trade?).
All my other guitars have rosewood fingerboards, and i'm not feeling at home on the maple.
Plus, if you look at photos of SRV, he almost always played with a rosewood fretboard. Hendrix mixed it up a bit.
The maple is supposedly brighter and twangier, better for country and rock. Rosewood probably better for the blues.

I've got the 50's and I love it, but judging by youtube sound clips I think the 60's sounds more SRV'ish.

Definitely go with the 60's. I have one, and am deeply in love. SRV, Jimi? Yeah, this guitar can do that all day long.

The sound difference will be fairly minor after you drive it through a tube amp, and overdrive pedal and other effects. I'd go with the one you like the looks of the best.
For me, I prefer rosewood, but you are the guy that has to play it, not me.

cv50s have alnico 3 pups you wont get a jimmy hendrix with those there more the shadows the 60s vibe as alnico 5 pups there more for what your after so a 60s vibe would be your best bet but the guy above me is right if you have fx peddles then it wont matter much but if you dont have all that gear then 60s

If your're looking for both the SRV, and Jimi tones it sounds like you need 2 guitars. I've never heard of 1 guitar that nails both tones. So pick the one that feels and sounds the best to you.

Go with the guitar that you like better. I went with the CV50s. It had the mojo and sound I was looking for. Play a bunch of them and see which one you like. you do not need our validation for your choice.

You only need one guitar to nail their tones, and a strat will get you there. Doesn't really matter if you get the 50s or 60s IMO. What matters is your setup.
If you have a nice fuzz, Tubescreamer type pedal, Uni-vibe clone, Wah, and a nice tube amp you can nail Hendrix and SRV sounds. Now will you play like them, that's another matter.

I can't decide either. I wish i could have both. But i think i am leaning towards the 60's alil bit. These axes are sweet, Fender should have done a line like this years ago.
Nice forum.

I currently have 3 CV Squiers; the only one I gave up was the CV50's. Good guitar but my copy just wasn't set-up as well as the other three. From my experience, I would go with the CV60's which in my case was perfectly set-up and even the nut was properly cut, which doesn't even happen too much with MIM/MIA guitars.

650-750 for a mexican made strat is alittle crazy then you get the player ones which are around 900-1000. Mexico or China ? does it matter.... the price is perfect. I love fried dumplings !!!!
