NGD (classic vibe content)
It finally arrived!!!111!!!111!!!111!!!
Yup, my CV 50's Strat is here at last!
Dang! the quality of this thing! i was a little apprehensive as i had to order this online (i don't have a local guitar store and the place i used to use went belly up last year) but i'm pleased to report it is faultless. Fretwork is excellent, no nasty buzzes anywhere on the neck, action is low, trem is decked but that suits me...it's how i set my Strats up anyway, fit and finish are fantastic and there's some beautiful flame figuring on the neck. The damned thing was even almost in tune straight out of the box! 20cents flat on all 6 strings and once tuned up intonation was spot on...pretty impressive.
Pickups sound quite nice, but from my own previous experience they'll sound much better with some 250k pots and the bridge pickup wired to the second tone control, bridge pickup sounds suprisingly rounded though, not at all harsh, which was a pleasant surprise.
So, yeah, extremely happy with this guitar, it's plays wonderfully, feels like an old friend already
I'll get some pics up over the weekend, but for now you'll have to make do with this (thanks Thaus)....

Pots should already be 250K Alpha mini-pots.
And yes the pickups on the CV50s are amazing.

Update.
Ok, so it's been about a week and a half now and i'm still diggin' this guitar, it just plain plays and sound great!
Only tiny problem i found with it was that the nut was poorly cut, the A & D strings were hitchin' up if the talent lever got any kind of use, no biggie, i filed and lubed it today when i restrung, all good now.
And here she is...
and with her sisters...
Apologies for the crap picks, i know that my photography blows!

Nice one!....
Cool that you got one with some nice flame on the neck (mine has that quartersawn kaleidoscopic effect).
So, my question has to be; Are you going to fit her with a vintage spec single ply white pickguard or just leave her as is?

Thanks Rockape.
I'm gonna leave her as is, kind of reminds me of Dave Gilmours 0001

Nice...very nice. Good to hear such a glowing report as well. Only thing is Jimi, looking at your collection I think you need to change you name now to David something...

man that's sweet looking. At first I wasn't crazy about the gold pickguard/white body look, but it's kind of growing on me.

Congrats on a beautiful guitar, J H! I just got me one of those myself, very happy with it!
Would You mind elaborate a bit on what You mentioned about switching one of the tone pots to the bridge, is it a common thing to do?
Rockape: How can one determine if the neck is quarter sawn, could it be done without detaching it and look at heel? It would be cool to know what kind of neck's on my guitar.
(sorry for the noobish kind of questions)
cheers/Squirr

Hi Squirr, yeah i always swap the second tone control to operate on the bridge pickup, to my ears it really improves the sounds from positions 1 to 4 on the 5 way switch and makes the middle pickup actually useable.
It's a very simple mod and easily reversable if you don't like it, you simply unsolder the second tone control wire from the 5 way switch and resolder to the terminal on the switch that was previously unused.

Hi Squirr,
First of all, for anyone not sure of what quartersawn wood is, here is a link:
What Is Quartersawn Wood?
And an example: (I haven't got a shot of my own one yet;....Hope the owner of this one won't mind me using his picture):
A quartersawn neck is supposed to be stiffer / more stable than the traditional flatsawn necks, and with more 'ring' to them......
This stiffness is evident in my daughters mini Strat which has a quartersawn neck with no truss rod.

Quite amazing that one of these CV's would have a quarter-sawn neck!! That is a much more expensive piece of wood......my EJ has one and it is worth a bit more than my CV series guitars.

Thanks J H and Rockape for the info
I don't feel like removing the pickguard just yet on my CV, but might very well try that "trick" later on.
Hm..seems like I just have an ordinary plain sawn neck on mine... ... but I like it anyway!
