Squier and Squier II PUP Rout

After reading posts here about the quality of Squier II guitars I am considering buying one. Do the pup routs for these usually accommodate an HSS or HSH setup? I would like the option of putting a humbucker in the bridge position.

I take it Squier II's have alder bodies--which is my preference when it comes to tone woods? Which ones are consistently good--i. e., Korean, Japanese...?

Plywood.

But the pup route is the non swimming pool route which means you will have to do some drilling to go from a SSS to something else.
