500k pots in Squiers?
Just an observation....
I noticed that most of my squiers have 500k pots. I thought they came with 250k, but after looking to my surprise, they were in fact 500k.

I was surprised to find 'em in
my '99 Indonesian Blackie too.
I thought 250k pots were standard operating procedure for
Strats in general, be they Fender or Squier, but obviously not.
My other Squiers are 250k.

I agree, i always put 250k pots in - before i even consider a pickup swap - makes a world of difference to the sound and for the better imo.

500k sound great in these things to me. I like a bright sound when clean and a VH style when dirty. Of course, all people and equiptment are different, but I always thought the squiers had 250k.....I guess not.

I first discovered 500k pots in a Protone Squier Strat I had. Wish I still "had" it.

Mine came with 250k pots. I swapped these out for 500K as an experiement and it sounded (to me) like someone was attacking my eardrums with an ice-pick. I went back to 250K.

My MIJ came with 500ks and so did the Bullet. They supposedly don't bleed off as much treble and are standard on Gibsons with humbuckers. I'd venture that Fender/Squier uses them for exactly the same reason - to goose the highs on ceramic pickups.

One is suposed to be used on single coil pups and the other on buckers. I don't know why but a lot of people here do.

There is no concrete rule for pots, some early 50's Fenders had 500k pots too iirc. Its just down to preference.

Most Squiers come with 500k pots. Like anything Squier, that isn't an absolute rule.
I do personally prefer 250k pots with a .047uf cap with single coils. 500k with a .022uf cap is usually good for humbuckers. For mixed pickup configs like HSS... its a matter of compromise and experimentation to come up with the best combo that works with the pickups and guitar in question.
