NGD!!! BULLET

This is not actually the day of, but this came in a couple weeks ago and I've been too busy playing it to take any pics. So here she is in a beautiful daphne blue/seafoam green. I plan on upgrading the tuners, the nut, and refinishing the neck possibly. Maybe switching out the pups in the long run, but so far I'm definitely impressed with the quality and playability for the price. The neck has a great feel so I can vouch for the quality necks on these bullets!!

i couldn't deal with the pale look of the maple, and i have no woodworking skills or equipment, and the Bullet only cost $119.....so i had no reservations about doing the shoe polish tint. and so far, after several months of almost daily play, it's holding up fine and looking good.

well i'm on the same page with you about the pale neck haha, and yours looks really good so I might just go ahead and try that. How many coats of clear did you hit it with after you stained it??

just shoe polish. that's it. it came out pretty good for my first attempt, but there's two things i've since learned that i'll do next time. first, take some of the satin finish off the neck by using steel wool. second, heat the shoe polish with a hair dryer before applying.

i did about 2 coats the first time. then a month later did a third coat. didn't notice much if any difference with the third coat, so i'm leaving it as is.

Congrats, cmcassid! Once you replace the tuners and nut, you'll have a really nice guitar that'll stack up with the best of em' (and all for under 180 bucks....can't beat that!).

Pesky - I see that you said that you should take off some of the satin finish on the neck before applying the shoe polish....I thought the Bullet necks were unfinished? At least it seems like mine is unfinished (especially compared to my MIM strat neck which has a satin finish).

the Bullet necks are finished. it's not glossy or thick, but it's there.

"The neck is sealed with a coat of polyurethane which helps to keep the neck from warping in higher humidity areas."

Wery good color! I have the bullet and I think that the low budget squiers are much better than samicks, flights and others chinese-made strats.

Congratulations, comrade!

Wouldn't it leave a residue on your hands without sealing the stain?

nah. believe it or not, it stains the neck, you wipe it off well with a rag, and you're good to go. been done by many people for many years with good results. of course, i would only recommend this for cheap guitars with non-glossy finishes.

Congrats! I've got one of the earlier Bullets that's actually daphne blue (!) that I've modded into a real monster.
