Cv 50's seem to be the popular choice ... 16 to 3 ... very interesting.

Thaus, that is indeed a score! I'm planning on looking out for 2nd hand CV's over the next couple of years - I predict there to be some real bargains coming up.

Yes, it was a great deal and 10 days before I snagged the CV telecaster from same guy for $200.......there are Canadian dollars too!! The guy had a credit at a local music store and took these but then didn't care for them too much so basically gave them away. Essentially brand new.........I'll keep them!!

Here's mine........extremely good guitar. Only change I already made and will make is the pickguard; not a big fan of tortoise-shell so switched it for a 1-ply white 50's style.

I guess I could have looked at a 50's CV but I did buy used so took what the guy had.....I have read that the pups in the 60's are a little hotter and darker. They sound really good to me..........

I really like the look of the Rosewood fretboard .
I've been thinking about buying the CV60's and and swittching out the maple neck on my CV 50's with the rosewood neck and maybe the pickups as well depending on the sound and then maybe selling the leftover parts.
the result would be a cool hybrid 50's body with rosewood neck and alnico IV pickups.
How much do you think I'd get for a CV body and neck ?

Good question......the neck is worth at least $150 if not more.........if it is as well set-up as the the CV guitars that I have, I would pay that! The pups in the CV 60's are extremely good.........

Nope.
Maple necks have the skunk strip because that is the area they route out to install the truss rod. The "strip" is the fill in afterwards. Rosewood board necks wont usually have them since they will install the truss rod prior to laying the rosewood down.

Interesting. I never knew that! It is nice to see the CV club growing quite nicely. I know there are more CV owners out there, we just have to find them. Thaus I like how you changed out the guard on the CV 60's...white or mint are much better than tort IMO.
If any of you are in the NE Missouri area like I am, there is a dealer about 45min from me in Moberly, MO who has the full run of the CV guitars (no basses). I checked each out and they all looked superb. I didn't buy as funds are short and I already have a CV and am set for now. I know a lot of people are having trouble finding them in stores, however this could be your chance!

Well, My plan is in motion.
Just got off the phone with Musicians Friend and a CV 60's is on its way.
So I'm going to go ahead with my plan for a hybrid CV 50's body with the pickups and neck from the CV 60's Strat and will probably put the extra parts up for sale.
So if anyone is interested in a 60's body and or 50's CV neck let me know.

asc post some pics of the end result (if you end up doing it) when you are through. You are doing the exact opposite of what I thought about doing. I want the 60's internals in the 50's body with a 50's neck.

Another option that a lot of people don't know, is that you can also get an all maple neck without a skunk stripe. They have a maple fretboard that is attached. I have a MIJ 68 reissue that is that way. In fact it is the one in my avatar.
So let me get this straight. You are buying a 60s guitar and using the 50s body instead of the 60s. Are you doing this just for the 2 color vs the 3 color.
I know you are swapping the neck and internals but it seems a lot to do for just a slight variation in color.
I would just swap the necks, and get a different pickguard. But then again I am rarely mod my guitars.

Yes, that's correct. Dig the 2 tone sunburst and just prefer the Rosewood neck over the all maple. I won't decide on the pickups until I hear them.
The necks on these are so nice I think it would be hard to find a good replacement for under $150 so if I sell the left over parts I think I'll do better than buying pickups and a replacement neck.
I'll also have a unique CV hybrid to my own specs.

Impressive
I've been checking out all that's been said here about these Squier CV's. Everything about them seems positive. My only concern was the use of Pine for the body, however after reading this review it's made me seriously interested in contemplating a CV Tele
Classic Vibe Telecaster '50s | musicradar.com
I have Strats at the moment and always fancied a Tele. This may be the way in.

Hi, new to the forum, and finally back to owning a strat!
Background: I had a great squier flame maple top strat I bought in a pawn shop for around $120 that was just wonderful. I ended up selling it for some stupid reason, and just moved on from strats (I play a lot of heavy stuff, so I started looking at SG's).
Now, my nephew's buddy bought this beautiful cream colored strat off HIS buddy, and it all came flooding back....I needed a strat again. So, I remembered really liking the Vintage Modified SSS strat, and I found out it was available in flame maple...which looks almost the same as the wonderful one I had sold. So, I went in to the store expecting to only ALLOW myself to like the VM.
Well. I noticed they had the duosonic, the 50's and 60's strats in, brand new, still with some packing peanut residue on 'em! I decided to play all three. Now, remember, I didn't WANT to like either the 50's or 60's, because they were only available in one color, and I just didn't like the look of the 60's at all. But, I tried the 50's out. I really liked it. I tried out the VM...and I was somewhat underwhelmed. I plugged in the 60's, and found it had a very unique tone...but I wasn't a fan overall. So, it was down to the 50's and the VM.
I just kept comparing riffs between the two on the same amp settings, and it became clear..as GREAT as the VM guitar line is, the classic vibe trumps it. Im my opinion, these classic Vibe guitars are the best value for your dollar I have ever seen. I LOVE maple necks, and this neck is like the PERFECT combination of a tele neck and a strat neck. My favorite ever Les Paul had a 50's neck as well...so I think I am on to something.
Anyway, I stuck the 20% down on the CV to get it put away for me, and I cannot WAIT to get it home. When I have it paid off, I will post the serial and a few pics. What a fantastic guitar. Everything from Bon Jovi to Megadeth..it handles it all. I absolutely love it.

Well, I just received my CV 60's Strat and it is really nice.
The neck is beautifully quarter sawn with major silkiness on the headstock and all along the back of the neck.
I'm really pleased with that as that is why I ordered one... for the neck.
The body is really nice as well, two piece bookmatched as oppossed to my CV 50's which is a three piece.
It's also a little over a pound lighter than my 50's Strat. I do have the full metal tremolo block in the 50's but I think that the body is a lot lighter.
Surprisingly the pickups don't sound a whole lot different the the Alnico three's in the 50's.
Tomorrow I'lll be putting the Rosewood neck on my 50's Strat.
I'll be putting the CV 60's body up for sale if anyones interested let me know.
Thaus, I let you know about the other neck when I make up my mind for sure about selling it.
We also have one more on the serial numbers.

I am glad to see this club has grown so much. I wasn't sure how fast it would take off but am glad to see it has. Maybe with time we can rival the CV tele club at TDPRI! Keep up the buying guys. Also I haven't had a chance to get a hold of Squier/Fender but assuming I do I will report back with the results on possible explanations for the serial# codes.

Odd you mention this... I myself have the 60's where as my brother has the 50's but his 50's is lighter than my 60's (very light) and he has a 2 piece body vs your three.
His serial prefix is CGRI vs your CGS so this must have something to do with different factories or different build variation. Like why build a bunch as 2 piece bodies but than others as 3 ? I mean I can understand the slight weight variations as not every single piece of wood will have the same density and overall weight even if their the same shape/size.

Thought I'd join in here. My first post. I bought the 60s because I wanted two things: a sunburst strat and a rosewood fretboard. I have an old Aspen clone that has a maple board, otherwise I would have went for a deluxe. The Aspen clone has a VM pickguard with associated electronics. Sounds great and different from the CV. So I can cover most strat sounds with one or the other.
I have compared the CV to MIMs and other Fenders, and I feel it is a fine piece. I'm not going to add "for the money" either. It is a great value, though.

here we have it, CV 50's with Rosewood neck
Indeed the CV 60's Strat is a early one
Neck Date of 11/19/2007
My CV 50's neck date of 2/22/2008
I'm really digging the look of the Rosewood board and the fret work is outstanding as is the original Maple neck as well.
