Yeah unfortunately, music stores 'round here wouldn't give me a straight up swap for the Blues Jr. One said they would for the Duo, but I may try to sell the amp. I have had several pedals up for grabs on Amazon.com, The Gear Page and Harmony Central.....no one has $$ these days and I really don't want to ship an amp. I shipped a SCXD (which is smaller and lighter) and that was expensive enough. Craigslist is a drag too.....nothing but lowballers and scammers. Appreciate the opinion, wanna buy a Blues Jr.?

CV Serial Numbers

In examining the serial numbers you only see 07,08,09 so it certainly leads one to think of years.
However, the serial number is at least not the date the guitar was 'born'. The reason I say this is I just picked up a CV50's (I bought it to get money back out of a gift card, but it is nicer than any MIM or Squier I've had, so...) The guitar came with a 'QC Card' tag (quality check) with a date of 090318 and the serial number is also printed on this tag (so I know it matches). The QC was March 2009, but the serial number is CGRJ0800xxxx.
It is most likely that they ordered a bunch of serial number decals ahead of time, and are using them as they make guitars, and/or they have a stockpile of necks.
If I had to decode these it looks like there are two systems:
CGS (until Jun 08 ) - the date is YYMM (maybe the month is 00-11)
CGR (after Jun 08 ) - the date is the letter A-L for month + YY
Then the serial number after is probably the production count that month (which may include other guitars besides CVs).
I only see one guitar that breaks the month rule, but this makes me think the month might be 00-11 instead of 01-12, which would make all the serial numbers OK. Also StratCat65's is 0904 (the newest sn if it is correct) but uses the old serial number system, maybe they are going back to the old system, or a previous factory....

No the bands are just my SC-radio station and friends. I will not buy a CV because they dont make 'em for lefthanded. I would only flip a used guitar I would get for a real good price. Only flip I have right now is a bass. The SQ's were quality for sure, my pic on SC is my MIJ E-series, I just recently joined over there. I love checkin the new bands. I thought I added you as a friend , did I not ?

I already emailed them and they said time will tell, depends on the demand. No plans right now. They said putting my voice out there is all I can do for now. Now if they were into throwing us a bone they would put out a Fiesta red CV 60's for Lefty's only 8 )
(SC said I already added you, you have to go to edit profile to accept it.)

well i sold my gibson les paul standard, and kept the CV 50s strat, now my only electric! that should tell you how much i like it.
of course i'm not saying the squier was a higher quality instrument. but i just liked it more, and played it way more often than the gibby.

i'll try to post a sound clip tomorrow.
i really like the guitar except for one thing...and i don't know if this is typical of CV's or not...but the high E slips off the fingerboard too easily. I put an 11 on, hoping that would help, and it has a little, but I'm still finding that the string slips off more than on any of my other guitars.

honestly, it doesn't look like it. i read on some other threads where people suggested a neck shift, but that doesn't look to me like the problem.
here's one possible cause: i bought the guitar used and noticed some very slight chipping near the nut. i'm wondering if the nut was replaced with one that has improper string spacing.

Why don't you take a close up photo of the nut and get others input whether it looks like their originals ....

Hey guys, finally I've acquired this evening my passport to the club:
CGS, 0908734, kashino, CV 60's CAR
Amazing Candy Apple Red, pics on the net doesn't do justice to the colour finish. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
I must add the set up date: 09-07-26, even if it is a CGS serial number one. I was afraid adquiring a CV after more than a year they're out, but the quality is intact.
Very resonant unplugged, good set up right out of the box (no buzz at all, but it has maybe a little bit high action), great neck finish,... The features you all know now they have. It's a beauty!
Cheers!

CV 60's CAR
Okay, here some pics. Sorry for the bad quality, my girlfriend's out for one week and took the good camera with her. But I promise to post more pictures in a week (I'd like you'll to see the brilliance of the colour and some details on the neck). Enjoy these ones by now... By the way, how do you attach pics in more resolution???
If you like to search wally, look at some of my star wars figures collection on the top left corner of the first pic, he, he. And, yes, the guitar on the right is an Slash Signature Les Paul Dark tobacco Burst in his case (absolutely amazing guitar, incredible sound!). I wanted you to see the other toys I have!

You could put them on a picture site and then just use the 'link up' to them then when one clicks on it it would be full resolution... sites will limit uploads due to bandwidth

I did with aggressive pull offs until I put 11's on it
Edit : just saw your post mentioning you did try an 11. I dunno, it helped on mine.

Yes Richey, is a mint green pickguard, but it looks white in these pictures. Next pics will be better.
The sound is fantastic. I had the opportunity to compare it to a 2TS 50's, an OW 50's and a 60's road worn strat (I played it only to compare, not to buy it), and mine was the best sounding... The OW 50's impressed me too (very brilliant sound). But I was looking for a rosewood neck, as I'm used to them, and the election was easy.
I had a question: Hows the nut finished in your CV's? Mine is a little scratchy, and barnish gets over in in the borders... I don't like the look it has, but it runs great. I was wondering if the finish in other CV's is like in mine, the only thing I didn't look to when buying it was that detail!

That type of thing has been a problem on some strats since the 50's. Do a search on it in the reg. strat forums. A fix for some is to lossen off the 4 screws a bit, and shift the neck over a bit, so the string sits alittle more on the fret board . And while holding it ther in place tighten the screws up again. That being said I am only going my memory so look it up. I also think a person would need a bit of room in the neck pocket to do that.
And for goodness sakes to NOT OVER Tighten the neck screws. Take it in to a good tech that may know what I am talking about. ALso , but I don't know if ya should, when all the strings are off if a person lossens the screws (6) that hold the bridge plate to the body, they can shift the bridge a tiny bit. Those bridge screws are not tightened rgiht down nore are they susposse to be . I put my bridge flush with the body so after I have, I snug those 6 up a bit. I don't know if you are susposed to do that or not.

My nuts (ha ha ) on both CV's I've owned were fine. I filed them a bit to accommodate a .010-.052 set of strings. Are we talking about the same part?
Bet that mint looks fantastic in person!! Definitely great sounding guitars, I gigged twice last weekend and got nothing but compliments....

My high E did slip and get hung on the third fret.....I filed the fret down and it was fine, Especially if I was doing a Cheap Trick-style pull off it would get hung up.

Yes, about the same part, he he... I use .010-.046 on my les paul and on my other "strat" (is a copy, a Kay according to the headstock, but it's obviously not a Kay. I gotta post a pic here to see if anybody knows something about this guitar). I think I'll keep the .009s on my CV for a while, these days I'm feeling good with them.
I'm loving the red finish (I'd like an OW body, but there's no CV 60's OW) and the 60's neck. The frets are amazingly good finished, they're really comfortable and the neck doesn't feel sticky to me. I'm impressed by the general set up and finish of the guitar, my Slash Epi is China made too, and it's a great job but this is a little better.
So you gig? I only play at home, it's a kind of hobby to me, I play really bad, but I'm improving a lot practising with some Lick Library DVD's.

Yes, they come with mint pickguards and it makes them look older. In my opinion, the yellowed pickup covers over a clean white pickguard in this CAR would look worst. I'm going to post new pics in a couple of days with a better camera (that was my phone's one) and natural light to let you all see it. The combination (red-mint green) looks amazing. The guy at the store get impressed with it, but we must consider that probably he's bored of looking mostly at sunburst everywhere...
Another difference is the tint on the neck: OW and 2TS has darker tinted necks, and Lake Placid blue has no tint... 60's CAR is tinted, but lighter than the 50's ones (I suppose the other 60's has the same lighter tint, but I'm not sure).

Yea, prob so ... if you look at the advertisment in this thread the two necks look somehow different ... anyone else think so (ie... between the CV60's sunburst and the CAR 60's) ??

Yup. Mine was noisy when changing. I usually wear one out every 5 years or so, this one was making noise within 3 months. Installed a proper Fender switch and wired the tone control to the bridge pickup while I was in there.
Next up is to replace the input jack somewhere in the next few months.

You've captured my feelings precisely! After owning my 50s Classic Vibe for a couple months (waiting for the "honeymoon" period to pass) I sold my top-of-the-line American Deluxe Strat I had owned for ten years. I knew intellectually the AmDlx was a better guitar, but I just enjoyed playing the 50CV more. And still do. It's now a year later and the "cheap" Squier remains my #1 guitar.
The only thing I miss from the AmDlx is the color -- its Candy Red (transparent) paint was stunning and showed off the woodgrain underneath. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another CV if Squire would offer a 50s Maple Neck (dark tint) in Dakota Red. I like the sunburst, but there's just something special about a red Strat...

Same experience here. Sold my 08 American Standard. Even though I knew the MIA was more solid and had and overall better quality construction, the CV just feels and sounds better to me. I put it up against all sorts of strats and it keeps knocking them down.
