mmmmm nice... Squier Classic Vibe 50s Strat on eBay... 11:43:50 GMT)

if I didn't already have a s/b maple strat I would consider it! Having seen one of these in a shop I can see what everyone is raving about!

Wanna join!

Hi! I wanna join the Classic Vibe Club.
But i only have a partscaster with CV 50's body from eBay and a CV 50's neck bought from a friendly guy.
The rest is a classic tremolo with stainless steel block (custom made in Germany) and SCN Fender pickups with CTS pots, TBX tone control CRL switch.

Does this guitar count?

Unless the prices are being deliberately raised for Xmas, it's nice to see that my Classic Vibe has already gained £30 in price in a few months. Way to go.

I've added my serial number, bryvincent's and moved LexLuthier's into it's correct place in the serial number order.
It might be worth standardising some of the terms and abbreviations as well buy I don't want to tread on any toes by altering other people's preferred descriptions.

It's here!! My lil' Vibey is finally here!!

After over 10 days of patiently waiting, the wait is over... and the FedEx guy handed this beauty minutes ago

Nice I always liked the looks of that one. I have a few white ones maybe I should dress one out like that.

My CV 50s refinished

I decided to jump off the deep end and strip my CV 50's down to the bare wood, past the sealer and all. It's a 3 piece body, but careful attention was paid to grain matching. I didn't take any photos of the process, but here's a couple quick phone shots of the finished product. I painted it with nitrocellulose lacquer from stewmac.com and my little paint gun that I used to use for race car touch ups. ; )

It's got about 14 coats all told on it with 4 or 5 initial clear coats, 4 or 5 color coats and then another 4 coats of clear. I let it cure for 2 weeks and then wet sanded and polished. Turned out pretty sweet. There's definitely a difference in the unplugged tone compared to the poly finish.

For pickups, I decided to try the dragonfire EMG SA copies. They're definitely noiseless and still sound like a strat. Each of the single pickup positions sounds great. I need to adjust some pickup heights to get positions 2 and 4 to sound a little better. I probably just need to lower the middle pickup a little.

I also took the shine off the neck while it was apart to a matte finish using steel wool, etc. Definitely a little faster now.

I'll try to get some better pictures when I find the real camera...

Bruce

The neck is a little sticky with the gloss on... It'll take me a few plays to get used to it.

Nice guitar btw Bruce!!

Is it true that the cv teles have 250k pots, and the cv strats have the mini pots? I know the cv tele that I had was awesome I am now wanting a strat but I dont want to have to change the pots right off.

yes its ture I have both . The tele full size Alpha, the strat mini Alpha . I changed the pots ,cap, switch , output jack and trem block. on mine. The minis work fine , so did the switch. The jack developed a strange short to ground , so I put a switch craft in $3.85. The block, well I don't like the skinny stock ones so i got a celtrocka CRS.
None of the stuff ya need to change right off , it all works for how long thats the ? LOL

Congrats ZLover! I've got finals all this week too and studying is hard with my guitars ans this site calling me all the time! It is a vicarious thrill indeed to see one of the gang get a new one, and those OlyCV50's are just lude!

Bruce, very cool mod on the CV50! That all black look is stone cold!

Thanks JRSIV! I like the all black look too. I've set it up so I can swap back and forth between the stock pickups in a single ply black guard and the actives in the 57 reissue guard. So far, the actives are definitely growing on me. The lack of hum is a good thing.

Big Time!! Jeff used to play a 335 but it was too bland (it was a Gibson, but a satin finished dot, don't know the pickups) That Tele rocks through his AC-15! Warmer w/ the RW board, should have a vid up soon, will post a link.

I raised the action on the 60's and have the pickups set pretty good (I LOVE the bridge pickup by itself, usually don't on a Strat), great tones in all positions. We tune down a half step and currently have 10-46 GHS Boomers and am digging it.
