Thank you!
i think this guitar is a good starting point to do some customizing (like changing pick ups, tuners, bridge and so on).

I have got a candy red CV 60 , sn. CGS0904923 . I love it . This will be my "backup guitar".
It's brighter sounding than my black fender 2007 am. strat which I refitted with CS 69 pickups.

What sort of adjustments will I face when putting .11 strings on it?
Also the tremolo seems to be rather stiff. I am afraid diving deep to break anything?

I filed the nut slots a bit (smoothed w/ sandpaper, pro job? prolly not but I have no issues just remember file wide, not deep) to accommodate 11's. Hammer on that trem bar w/ no strings to loosen it up (I did, but don't go crazy with it either). Love the look of the CAR!!! Mine's 1st run SB, my go-to axe!

Tele pups look like some G&L pickups to me...$149...that's a great deal..for another $100 you can put some great dimarzio true velvets in that tele and really have a great player.

I think the buzz is dying down here due to the new CV Custom and Tele. They look cool, definitely want to check one out...

Well, I love them stock, but I'm getting my p/g ready for my Klein pups which are on the way.

I stripped the CV 50's P/g and putting the following in my CV 50's

- Callaham trem (mexican standard)
- Callaham aluminum shield plate
- cloth wire
- CTS 250k pots
- Switchcraft jack and switch
- Sprague Orange Drop .047uf 100v guitar tone cap
- Klein S6 set of pups - Klein Pickups S-6 Low Output Stratocaster Pickup Set
- string tree off a '75 Bronco
- strap buttons off the Bronco
I'm sticking with the stock white p/g for now. Only Squier parts left will be the body, neck, tuners, neck plate, and jack plate.

Should be complete and onstage at a blues jam later tonight. If the pups get here today, which they should, I've got a guy that will cover my shift at work tonight A lot of strat players will hear those pups, so I guess I'll be doing a street team thing in the process.

Perhaps, but they don't excite me yet. The original CV Tele and Strats are what started the buzz. We'll see

They but with limited availability until late spring...the "buzz" outta fade. Personally, I don't like the dark finish on the thinline, it looks like a piece of furniture - not a Fender guitar, imho. Perhaps a black pickguard and some amber tinting of the neck would make it more appealing to me ???

WOW !...I just listened to the sample of those Klein pups...really nice...very Mayer. I could live on the neck pickup sound all day ! Can you do an audio sample of this guitar when she's all together ?

I had a train wreck since my last post and the plan fell though lol.
Got My Pups - Quick Question

My CV 60's p/g doesn't have any issues components-wise, so when I get up later today, I'll just put the Kleins on the 60's guard for now and drop it in the CV 50's. I'm anxious to get it up and running. The routing required on the 50's for the Switchcraft switch will have to wait till I get the proper tools.

I'll try to have a demo posted by half time of the the Super Bowl. Hopefully sooner.

I've got them installed and they sound nice. Unexpected company prevented me from getting done till late. Complete set up and all. I'll post a demo clip after I have time to do them justice. Still have to tweak the pups height.

This mod stuff takes more time than I thought lol.

Where are they?

Hello all, new member here. I've got my heart set on a 60's CV sunburst but can't find one to demo in the entire Mpls/St. Paul area! I was able to play a CAR yesterday and loved it, appears there are 2 of those in town. I'm hesitant to buy a guitar without trying it out first but after reading the posts here, it seems that people have only good things to say when their guitars arrive. I guess I'm just looking for the final push over the edge. Are the CV's really that good that GC and other places are afraid to keep them in stock because they're scared they'll cut into the MIM or even MIA sales?

Peace,
G.

Hi Granter,

I saw a 50's sunburst CV at Music Go Round on Lexington and Larpenteur in Roseville the other day. $200, no idea if its still there.
Otherwise they have a 60's CV in red new at Music Connection in Forest Lake, where I'm a guitar instructor.

If you are interested in either, maybe give the above stores a call. Tell them British Chris sent you!

Yes. I used to work there and got it straight from my ex-managers mouth.....they carry the CV basses and I got my Duo Sonic there. No Strat's or Tele's so I am told.

Since this is a data base sort of thread, here is a pic of the mojo left on my CV 50'as after my Epi Valve jr mini stack fell on it

The stack was on top of a RCA console sitting on a moving dolly, and when I lifted a tool box that was sitting beside the stack, the console was weight heavy on the stack side and tilted.

Anyhow, no harm done other than the chip and a ding on the edge of the neck between 2 frets. Not enough to catch on camera.

Yeah! those are the bestest of mojo scars on axes! ;o)

My cv 50's i got but 5 months ago... it quickly became my favorite of the three strats i own.

It's picking up a nice bunch of scars from being in the war, since i'm a 2 gig a week musician she sees a plenty action these day's.

here's how she sounds thru my hotrodded super reverb with the stock surfaris in her. only pots cap and switch, pickguard are changed on her.
All the rest is stock...

i usually stack a bunch of boosters and ts's into eachother and then play through a leslie at the same time but for the sake of the vid i had her just straighgt into the super...

Hey from VA. Newbie here!
CGS080100407, CV 60's
I need some help here with a non-stock neck pickup in my CV60.
I bought this guitar used from Daddys Junky. This is the way I bought it...SRV 3 ply guard and non CV neck pup.
If anyone recognizes it please email me.
This neck pup measures 5.82 with obvious flat staggered poles. Looks like 016730 molded in bobin plastic which seems to be generic Fender bobin for different pup models. Black/white leads. Is it possible to tell reverse wound with the multimeter?
Thanks, Kev

First post...

I brought my 60's last year and can't leave it alone. My wife isn't pleased that I spend so much time with it... This is my 5th guitar, I researched for a month before purchasing and I am more than happy with the result. @Yogi - your youtube video and a couple others helped me choose.. (much appreciated)

I am contemplating modding and changing the bridge pickup for a double... has anyone done this that can recommend kit? Something that doesn't depart too much from the classic tone but adds some kick perhaps.. thoughts?

Some pics: (Lots of photos come out orange so I tried to white balance to the natural color - still not candy enough though)

About to pickup a CV 60's 3T SunBurst from someone here on the forums. I really would like to change the pickguard from the Tortoise to an aged looking white or the mint green. I don't wan't something too green though. Any suggestions?

I looked at Warmoth and its about $33 shipped.

This one at Guitar Center would be nice because I have a $15 gift card to burn. But it looks pretty green in the picture.
Fender Replacement Pickguard 1962 Strat and more Guitar Pickups & Parts at GuitarCenter.com.

This one from Amazon is also a Fender Mint Green pickguard and I like the color more of this one. But its so hard to tell from the pictures.
Amazon.com: Fender Strat Pickguard Mint Green 3-ply 11 Hole: Musical Instruments Amazon.com: Fender Strat Pickguard Mint Green 3-ply 11 Hole: Musical Instruments

So does anyone have a suggestion of which specific pickguard will be what I'm looking for?

Thanks!
Tyler

I've just fitted a genuine Fender mint green pickguard to my CV 60's that i got this week...

I like it, the colour suits the 60's vibe of the guitar but without looking old or worn in comparison to the new guitar.

All the holes lined up too, which impressed me.

I like the looks of that one, looks great.

Just curious of where you bought the pickguard? I would like to get the one from Guitar Center since I have the gift card. But the image of the Fender pickguard on Guitar Center and the image of the Fender pickguard from Amazon look very different. So I'm not sure if its image differences or if its 2 different Fender pickguards.

Any ideas?

Buy a genuine Fender one and you should be good.

Thing about mint green is that it changes colour depending on the light and context. When i pulled this one out of the envelope it looked green, and not in a good way, once on the guitar it looks a nice aged off white (kinda chewing gum white...if that makes sense?) pics really don't do mint green justice. I got mine from a dealer on e-bay uk for £22

I own a olympic white CV50's with the gold pickguard and I have to say it is truly a thing of beauty!
It's pickguard coloration in different lighting is remarkable:

It goes from a orange/red copper (wich makes the white seem more offwhite = very beautiful and the maple seems more yellowish vintage looking) to a yellow gold with the white seeming brighter and the maple a lot paler)
In incandescent light the maple as well as the pickguard seem to have a slight (believe it or not) greenish hue.
The pickup covers and knobs look regular aged in an even ivory color in the daytime, in candescent light the pup covers seem minty and the knobs more reddish.

The thing is like a Chameleon! I absolutely love it and never change a thing about it's appearance. I will change the tremolo though as the damn arm has broken off after the wire was damaged inside and it was real stuck. A bit of a disappointment, but I was already planning on changing the tremolo because of the smaller sustain block and potmetal trem arm.

> This obviously is the Achilles heel of this product. Even with the smaller zinc sustain block though it's sound is also truly remarkable. Sustain, Brightness, the works. The neck is also a dream to play on.

Play on.
