Classic Vibe Owners Club

I am starting this thread because I was inspired by the Classic Vibe Tele Owners Club on TDPRI (our sister site). The thread there has grown to become enormous. One thing they do is have the members who own a CV tele to introduce themselves and share their serial #. If we can get a list going of serial #'s it can be useful down the road to compare quality and any changes in the model line. Basically all you need to do is copy and paste the most updated list of serial numbers and post your username: serial # in order by serial #. You can also feel free to ask questions, post feedback/reviews, and post pictures. Also since there are two strat models, indicate whether you have the 50's or 60's model. I'll start:

ccrnnr9: CGS080100213; CV 50's

Thanks for the reply. Just to make sure we have a list instead of random posts with serial #'s I will ask that everyone add there name to the "master list" in serial # order like so:

CGS080100014: Dauntless; CV 50's
CGS080100213: ccrnnr9; CV 50's

Welcome Dauntless! If you know anyone else with a CV tell em to come on over! Also when did you pick yours up? From as much as I can tell about the CV serial #'s you have the 14th made and mine is the 213th made. I picked mine up about 3 weeks ago. I know these haven't sold as well as the CV 50's tele.

Thanks for the add Glenn. Just out of curiosity from an objective owner of all three, which is your favorite? Also I would gander based on serial#'s that your CV 50's and mine were built on the same day.

I haven't played them enough to have a favorite, especially since I spent most of the last two weeks in China. I just like spending a little bit for a lot of guitar.

A quote from the guitar shop owner, after I made him play the 60s right before I took it home - "That's $900 tone".

First time poster (followed ccrnnr9's link from the tele forum). I love Strat's and Tele's, but bought the CV 50's because the Alnico III pick-up's sound so different from what I have.

I think this has to easily be the best bang for the buck guitar. Not much not to like. Vintage tuners, great neck (nice tint), body matched so well that you have to look at the back to see it's not one piece, nice fret job, etc. Looks like an Eric Johnson.

I have only a couple of minor quibbles, and they're pretty much cosmetic. The pick-guard is just too darned bright white. Hopefully that will change, but I'll probably replace it with a mint or not so bright white. The vintage covers on the pick-up's are really cool and old looking, but do not match the knobs. I'm going to try and find a match for the pu's, but if not possible I'll replace them all so they match.

Sound-wise this one sounds just a little thin compared to other Strat's I've owned. It might be the vintage Alnico III's, but I also found the metal part of the tremolo which the strings pass through (not sure what the correct name for this part is) is about half the thickness of my other Strat. I'll probably replace this part just to see if it makes a difference, but I still like the uniqueness of the sound regardless.

Great looks, plays like a dream and sounds really good. What else could one ask for? I bet if these guitars had a Fender Custom Shop sticker on them folks would have a hard time telling the difference. :0)

First time poster here too. Recently got my CV 50's and sure enough she's a sweetie! It does sound a little brighter than my other strat, although that's a Tokai with a sen ash body, rosewood fretboard and older strings as opposed to a (light) alder body, maple board and new strings - in reality it's what you might expect the difference between a 50's and 60's strat to be. If I could I'd be snapping up the 60's CV too - but these are $700 over here - still a great deal but not quite so cheap to acquire!

I do have pics though.
This one is with my 50th Ann.

Well I went ahead an rearranged the serial #'s in order lowest to highest. If you can when you add yours, add it in at the correct spot so that they are in order (by the last 4 digits). So far we have 13 on the list and growing:

CGS080100118: asc67; CV 50's
CGS080100139: HB; CV 50's
CGS080400153: celtaidd; CV 50's

Whats with the different serial number prefix ? I know the C is for China but the GS vs GRJ vs GRG.

I also noticed the picture you posted has a 0800 sequence (which mine also has) vs the 0801, 0803 etc etc... But regardless in the end they all have 12 Digit Serials.

I think our best bet is to get a hold of Squier and ask them what is with all the changes? I will call them or email them sometime this week to inquire. I was going to write them and thank them for making such a nice instrument for cheap and also request that they consider the idea of a squier jazzmaster of similar quality as the CV series. I'll let you guys know if I hear back from them.

Oh man, I would so buy a Jazzmaster of similar quality. But until that happens I'll probably consider the CV Tele as my next purchase.

There is also a report on another forum from someone stating that they have seen some 50's CV Strats without a skunk stripe (walnut filler) on the back of the neck???

And why do these two 50's models (pictured) have a different shade of burst?
(it's almost like they have been manufactured in separate production facilities;........could that be the reason for the different serial number prefixes perhaps???).

Well I took a few quick snaps of the 50's CV I got for my brother prior to sending it up north for him and you'll notice each picture the body appears to have a different finish/shade too it.

Both pictures were seconds a part but you can tell how things changed based on height and angle and depending on how the flash catches it can also change the appearance.

So I looked that receipt for the CV Strats I bought and noticed the 50's had yet a different Serial # prefix which is CGRI.

So there is CGS, CGRJ, CGRG and CGRI.

Then the Serials vary at the start from 0800, 0801, 0803, 0804, 0805, 8060.

Anyone got any input as to why they may vary. Or better yer, what the G, S, R, J Or I may stand for ?

As usual the analysts are going crazy. They are NOT a collectors item. They are a productiion item from the Oriient. They are well made guitars and they cost very little.
Lets just enjoy the **** out of them and wait for 20 years to analyze the results.

It has nothing to do with whether they will or will not become a collectors item but more so the curiosity of a brand new line up having such a wide variation in serial number prefix in such a short time.

So, is it possible the serial number prefixes have some kind of relevance to the neck profiles?

think they would market them as such, I forgot to ask the guys with the fat necks (lol) if their's have a skunk stripe...Im still thinking they are different factories, OR may stand for the month ( the different letters)

As far as I know, all the 50s have the skunk stripe.

I think the different SN codes may reflect different factories. I know that Epiphone does just this with their guitars.

I don't have a caliper to measure them, but here is a pic of the necks. Thin one is on the right. There may not look like much difference in the pic, but they're like night and day.

Hi Folks. I'm new here. Saw the link from TDPRI and just had to follow since I, too, have a 50's Classic Vibe Strat which I bought about a month ago.

Let me throw you a curve w/r/t the serial numbers -- mine is serial #CGRG08000041 What do you folks make of the prefix, CGRG? Weird, huh? Guess I'm the only one, so far. At any rate, the "08" would tend to indicate "2008" and the "000041 is a pretty low production number. I have no idea of the scale of these factories, so that could mean first day? First week? Month?? Any thoughts on this?

Been playing for 25 years. I've owned junk and I've also owned pro-level guitars (Gibson, Kramer, Fender) yet I can say without hesitation that this little Squier is the best bang for the buck! I've had the CV50 long enough for the "honeymoon" period to be over, but still find I play it much more than my American Deluxe. Speaking of playing, after an hour or two the light weight of the CV certainly is appreciated!

I should add that the factory setup was darned near perfect. Nut was well cut, action was medium-low, intonation excellent. Tuner's aren't as nice as the locking jobs on the AmDlx, but that's to be expected. The only thing that needed attention on the CV was the output jack; it loosened up and needed some locktite. I needed to move the tone control to the bridge pickup but that's just personal preference. The guitar's been great and sounds amazing at stage volume. But I'm not telling you folks anything you don't already know.

Well, enough of my yappin' -- here's the updated list:

My lovely wife bought me a CV 60's for my birthday after I had looked at the Tele and the two Strats. Our local music store gets all of the new toys early. I'm thinking the owner has a real good relationship with Fender.

I had brought in an amp for service (needed a new tube is all) and got a chance to play both the 50 and 60 through my amp. The 50 felt good, but the s60 sounded amazing. Great set of pickups on it. Here's my info . . .
