Return guitar without strings? Exchange or Build?
So I got my Squier strat in the metallic blue color, I like the color alot, but I'm just not diggin it on the guitar, I took off the strings ( cut them ) and was about to open it up but changed my mind and am gonna return it back to musicians friend, Do I have to restring before I send it back? If so which ones? Or would they charge me for a pack, I don't mind but just didn't want to waste a set.
The other question is should I just exchange it for a black squier ( definately want black now ) , or buy a MIM strat body and build it from scratch with other parts from guitar fetish? ( I already have a maple MIM Fender Strat neck, vintage style nickel tuners, and overwound bridge pickup )

If it was me I wouldn't charge you for a set. I'd simply refuse to refund on the basis that the item was not in the same condition as sold. Which is a roundabout way of saying, yeah of course restring and make sure you use the same Fender set.

Correct, it's only courtesy after all. Some places would refuse to take the guitar back anyway, especially just because you don't like the colour

I could not find their return policy online. Every online or retail store always expects item to be in the same condition as when it was purchased for returns. This means strings need to be on it.

my thinking, too. just because it's a "Big Box" type of store doesn't lessen the courtesy that was mentioned, also.

Oh geeze for **** sake put new strings on it before sending it back. I'm all for the consumer having a fair exchange policy, but sending it back without strings is truly uncool.

Yes, definitely restring before returning. As far as buying versus building, if you're up to the task building your own assures you get what you want.

They'd have to restring it anyway… MF does such a good job with customer service that they deserve for you to spend $4 on a set of strings.

I won't continue to beat you up on the string issue. I think that's been decided. BUT you should know that squier uses metal flake in their current paint jobs. So if you exchange for black it'll be black metal flake which is not really black. If you put it next to a black guitar you'll see a clear difference. Just be aware of that.

Thanx guys I'll just restring and get my money back, I was going to build a MIM strat but it would end up costing around $400 using a cheaper wired pickguard and bridge so I found a new one on eBay for $312 free shipping w/ an %8 off coupon and I had a $20 balance in paypal I didn't know I had so I really paid $282 for a Black w/ Maple neck MIM strat I am still going to change the tuners and the bridge pick up and am gonna tear the whole thing apart and rebuild it so I will definately still be learning. I bought the MIM maple neck here for $130 shipped so I guess I'll put it back in the Classifieds for the same price ( haven't touched it yet)
