Daphne Blue vs. Surf Green vs. Sonic Blue vs. Sky Blue

These colors all look a like?! how can i really tell them apart from each other? Surfing Green probably stands out the most in this lineup, but it seems that Fenders color definitions seems to change or something. I remember when there was a color chart on their website. Does anyone know where that went?

The current Fender colour chart is here.

Fluctuations in hues can happen for all sorts of reasons; some factory related, others age/condition/temperature/application/formulation/paint-type related. Most adhere to what people instantly recognise but some can be more difficult to pin-point.

Surf, Seafoam = greens
Daphne, Sonic = blues

Nice chart/link.

Several other colours seem very similar such as Desert Sand and Honey Blonde. Maybe they're more obviously different in the flesh.

Seafoam Green is the greatest colour ever.

To me, Daphne Blue and Surf Green can look very similar, especially in photographs. For instance, this Strat is Surf Green, but it always looks close to DB when I photograph it:

Your monitor can have an effect on how the color is perceived, too; there tends to be a lot more distinction when comparing them in real life. Compared to Surf Green, Seafoam, to me, always seems darker and more yellowy-green; Sonic Blue is lighter/paler; Daphne, as I mentioned, can be pretty close to Surf and vice-versa.

Well, one is more greener and surfier, and one is more bluer and Daphnier...

Totally depends on the light and the white balance of your camera. The computer is always looking for a perfect 18% graytone to work from, so it will adjust the color to what it thinks is right. Inside light is more yellow, flourecent is green, and outdise is blue, so the camera tries to "fix" it by rebalancing. Usually, it gets close, but never dead on without help...

Even Fender doesn't know the difference sometimes. They have had every color in between those at some point.

Even on their color chart, Daphne and sonic blue look almost identical. In reality, I would call both of those Sonic Blue.
