I use lemon oil on mine. It's basically mineral oil with a nice lemon scent!

Yeah, I use lemon oil. Tiny little bit every time I change the strings. After several applications if you use the same cloth you even need to re-oil it. The residue will suffice.

I use lemon oil only one time every 3 months.
May I use it every time I change strings?

From recommendations on the internets I started using Old English. It cleaned up and conditioned the rosewood fretboard on a nasty old bass I had laying around for several years..

If the fretboard looks/feels dry, yes. On a new fretboard essential.

But only use it very sparingly & make sure you don't get any on the guitar's finish...

Ciao

Gorgomyte!

Gorgomyte Fret And Fingerboard Conditioner

I am surprised more do not know of and use this now that GHS distributes it and it's at major retailers.

This cleans like abrasives without being as abrasive and doesn't soak with oils yet leaves the wood in superb shape.

FWIW: Two luthiers I respect said many will use too much oil over time and it can be less than ideal for a refret job. I'm not a professional or expert in that area but can say Gorgomyte cloth did an amazing job cleaning up a used guitar I bought and I did a cleanup of two rosewood fretboard guitars at about same time and the one with popular guitar lemon oil product was dull and dirty faster.

I too have read that Neil Schon does this.......somehow I believe he was being tongue and cheek and is not chuckling at all the players who use salami to condition their guitar fret-boards!! I like Fret-Doctor and use it once a year. First clean the gunk off with naphtha, then lightly apply fret-doctor, wait for it to soak in and wipe off. Makes the rosewood appear darker in a lot of cases.
