Fender Special Edition Strat....
Phew...after countless visits to many places it all came together last Saturday. There we were, my bandmate playing through all the Strats in the shop AGAIN and still as confused. There'd been a fair amount of coming and going, a new arrival of gear being delivered. Owner comes over and says he's got some new Strats arrive, Special Edition ones. So we take a look and ooohhhhweeeee
These new (for us in UK anyway) Special Edition Std Am Strats are gorgeous. He settled with a Daphne Blue one. Played like a dream, sounded superb and looks fabulous, really classy.
It's a good thing I didn't have my cards with me but at least I'll get my MIJ Strat back
Anyone else here checked these out?

Special Edition US? I don't believe I've seen them in the US? Are they a special order of that specific dealer?
I like to look them over, anyone have a link for this Strats?

Taking a look around the internet I did see them advertised at Sweetwater so presume they weren't just imported for the European market. Bit more info, they come only in Daphne Blue, Surf Green or Fiesta Red and have painted headstocks.
Update on this, we've just finished a band practice and he noticed a lot of brown stain had come off the fretboard onto his fingers...bit strange?

Anyone???
Anyone recently bought a US Std or Special Edition Strat with a rosewood board and had the dye/stain come off the fretboard?

The sales manager at my local shop new I've sort of been looking for an American Tele and asked if I was interested in one of the Special Edition versions of those. The thing was that I want a Tele with a maple fretboard and the painted headstock doesn't look nearly as good with maple as it does with rosewood. He didn't order any of either the Strat or the Tele for his store so I haven't seen one in person yet.

I had the same problem with a MIM Robert Cray I bought the first year of production.
I cleaned the board a few times then oiled it and its fine now. Never noticed any discoloration? I also assumed it was a dye to darken a lighter rosewood. But after cleaning and oiling it I can't seem to notice any difference.

Cheers LobotomyBoy & SMD.
I'll pass this on. He's a bit concerned about this happening on a £1000 guitar.
Must admit I'd either be taking it back to the Fender Dealer or contacting Fender. However he's really fallen for this particular model so is reluctant to part with it. Can't say I blame him

Thanks for the info giuys, I'm starting to see the Amer Standard Special Editions state side now.
Mostly just different finish options from what I'm seeing?

Yes, just the same as the latest spec US Am Std far as I can tell. TBO I've never been keen on painted headstocks, perhaps its a throw back to cheap 60's guitars, not sure. But it sure as hell is a beautiful Strat
The big deal on these is that they are producing only a limited number
Looking over it again yesterday I noticed the B string had a nasty kink in it, about 2" from the bridge saddles......mmmm....not so good. Suggested he changes the strings as we have a gig Friday evening and I wouldn't trust that B string.
