an alternative way to block your cheap trem
hi folks this is just to prove you dont need bits of wood cut excatly to size with all your springs on thats a load of shat. and the guys who tell you springs help tone in the highs and lows are talking shat. a block of wood kills the tone as wood will act as a dampner against the metal block as you can see in the pic cheap bridge with coins rammed in solid they av been there years. tighten springs full on lossen bridge screws ram the coins in. tight as you can tighten screws full up take springs of job done.your block will never move the coins are copper this helps the cheap block resonate better. the only reason ppl say use wood is cause clapton did it lol. TRY IT FOR YOUR BEDROOM GUITAR

It may work for you in your bedroom but I would never use a guitar on stage that had it's trem blocked that way!! One awkward move of the guitar and those coins fall out. No thanks, don't like to block my trem anyway.......it was designed to float and that's how all mine are...........

Whatever rocks your boat I guess! I am sure there will be players that will hear the difference in using copper coins or nickle coins!! Why not just screw the claw all the way in as far as they go and put 5 springs in there? That is effectively blocked. BTW, I use a Squier CV on stage right now so they are used as stage guitars!!

Bundini strikes again!! ha ha
ill take the wood block any day. a wood block running the length and depth of the trem block will give better coupling than a stack of pennies.
or, i'm wrong.
im sure some of the other guys will chime in too...

It's OK, it looks like he only has about 8p in there (I guess about 13 cents in US money). Prior to the credit crunch you could have used a couple of pound coins.

Zippo lighter. I woudn't keep on in there, but if you are setting up, it's nice to pull the springs and jam one in to save some time and it gives the right height on the cheapo trem blocks.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't the guitar made of wood, not pennies?
Wouldn't wood already be better for tone, since that's what [most] strats are made of?

I bet the only difference between any of the things used to block the trem is in ones head.
