Choosing a new neck: Problems Associated

G'day there,

I am making my own custom Strat. and am finding it difficult to find a US Std. neck for it. (LEFTY)
I am moving towards the idea of purchasing a reverse neck (Right).

What problems may one encounter? If any.
Will it affect the playing ability of either the guitar or myself?

Cheers,
Benji (Downunder)

As far as i can imagine you shouldn't face any issue.
Make sure that the drilled holes for the screws fit perfectly in the body.
Maybe you will need to change the nut, the slot for the high E is narrower than the slot for the low E string, logically, reversing the nut is not a solution (due to the angle) you may need new one if you see that the strings do not fit well (too wide or too narrow).
I wouldn't take the risk of buying it 2nd hand on the internet whatsoever.

Have you checked at warmoth? They got plenty of necks of any kind.

Try USCG.......a lot of boutique luthiers and builders swear by their necks. I have found AllParts to be very good. Anything that is licensed by Fender should work. As far as nut, find a good tech unless you are comfortable carving your own.

I have a Warmoth.com neck and love it. They'll make lefties too.

you seem rather fixed on the idea of getting an american standard neck. Let me tell you now that the two builders listed above (warmoth and USACG) make necks that are comparable in quality. Some really great custom builders use these necks for their guitars. And honestly, nobody in the audience is going to say "wow, that guitar would sound SO much better with a real fender neck!" It's your call, but if you want lefty without having to replace the nut... one of these sites is probably the best for you.

Their are alot of choices in necks. Warmoth would probably be the way to go. Their are other necks you could use if you wanted. I accually have a MIM strat that I recieved damaged in the mail. Luckly the guy refunded my money and let me keep the guitar. I fitted it with an ESP neck works very well. So you have plenty of options.
