Should I get this Strat?
It's in Mint condition, and I can get it for $899
Here's a picture of what it looks like
I've wanted one for as long as I can remember
There's a few light scratches on the pickguard that you can't see except for when you look at it the right way
I just need to know that it wont depreciate I ever need to sell it

It will depreciate......they all do! Only some custom shop models keep their value or go up (depending on what you pay!). If that's the american SRV, 899 is a good price I think! Cool looking strat (except for that pick-guard!!)

Hey you answered your own question, "I've wanted one as long as I can remember"
I would say that that guitar will never go below 899, so in the future you will get your money back. Make sure you get the case and all the case candy. That will only keep the value down the road.

Does it sound and play well? If the answer is yes, and you can afford it, then buy it.
As Thaus suggests, don't be concerned about depreciation, they all do.
Oh and welcome to this place

I actually like the pick-guard, I think that's what makes it unique. I was debating between the SRV Strat, or this guitar, which was absolutely beautiful.

The guitar is in perfect condition, except for the pick-guard which has the common scratches on it.
The one I originally wanted was the "Number One" replica that fender made, butt hose are insanely expensive haha

New ones cost $1,600 so $899 for a used one is a good price. Make SURE it has the proper case and hasn't had any changes -- or that it's not a homemade SRV Strat.

What's the dilemma? Depreciation? Dude, EVERYTHING DEPRECIATES. Maybe over enough time some things start to increase in value, but no consumer item should be bought with collectibility in mind. The old days of hand made and fewer guitars are over, we're in mass production now.
Just my honest opinion.

Hi all (my first post)
I bought the SRV Strat from Steve's Music, Toronto in 1998 and it got stolen that same year.
I wish I had kept the Ser. # written down so I can warn all potential used-guitar buyers.
Anyway, the price is very good for this guitar - as long as it's in very good condition and all its parts are original.
But be sure you play one before you buy it - the neck is quite thick and not very comfortable for all players. It gave me a hard time too, especially with 0.11 strings.

Good price. And maybe a better value than other Strats in the same price range.

I wouldn't want a Strat with SRV on it, seems to me you'd be making a statement along the lines you're a SRV copiest and sound like SRV, and that's a pretty high bar to set for oneself. If I did get one I'd change that pickguard pronto, but otherwise it's a real nice looking Strat.

Always wanted one? Get it. You're dead a long time. Oh, and change the pickguard... ;)
