Just a thought - but Wildwood gets busy, as it is also a retail store - I found calling is best. Although I deal with Troy, it seems everyone there is a pro and can help you.

Thanks for the tip, he actually got back to me fairly quickly. Theyre used stuff is a gold mine! He send me a few links to a few of thier guitars, they had a Rory Gallagher sig (just bought and then returned, never used) and a lightly used Eric Clapton artist series model, both under two thousand! The clapton one was about the price of an American Standard!

Glad you hooked up. The Clapton in Green is one of those guitars I'd love to get my hands on.

Keep us posted.

Speaking of clapton, Im really hooked on the artist series one they have used for 1300, thats a steal in my opinion, anyone played one? I know they very similar to the custom shop model, minus the CS craftmenship. Im not big on the signature on the front of the headstock, but I can live with it.

I've had my hands on a few - love the tone. The neck is slim, small radius. Over the last year I've put so many miles on my EJ that EC took a few moments for me to adjust to.

No, I have not played a CS Clapton, just the Artist. The EC I played The local GC last time I was there had them I think @ 1600 new.

What I like about WW is the way they give great detail about the condition of all the used gear they get. Don't take too long on making up your mind on the EC, I hemmed and hawed on a couple of guitars there only to have them sold just a few hours before I called.

I'm not the best person to take advise on as to feel / likes / dislikes - there is not too much out there I don't like. I bounce off so many different guitars, and after a few minutes on most anything I get lost in the music and exploring the capabilities of the guitar's range, I forget about it.

At the moment I digging a Les Paul Traditional that I found a good deal on Ebay. Nothing special about it - just a great player.

I spend so much time just drooling at guitars here and on the Bay and at vintage guitar dealer sites...just way too much time! And then someone had to remind me of Wildwood! Their Custom Shop section is UNREAL!

Wildwood's Fender Custom Shop Inventory!

Me too - I think its to the point where the wife would rather catch me me on a girlie site than on Wildwood.com ;)

Rudarb, that Firemist Silver has been at Wildwood for at least a month; I recall seeing it (it is gorgeous) last time I checked their site. Try and get them to come off the 19.

You're amidst all of Cleveland. Hard to believe no shops nearby have the Charcoal Frost in stock; I guess shops just are afraid to order and most folks just keep an eye peeled for all the bargains on used Strats instead. Shame on me for not knowing Independence (lived in Franklin Cty, OH and Erie Cty, NY and we were forever tracking back and forth right by where you are. I thought you were somewhere out a ways or something.

Bought my lonestar strat in GC and realized it had issues when I got it home. took it back and they ordered the replacement from GC online. So, in my case, the guitar ordered online was actually better than the one bought in the store. Could've avoided the whole thing by just looking at the guitar better in the store but I just wanted so much to like that guitar and they were giving me a sweet deal on it and I knew if I returned it I could get a perfect one for the same price.

Yeah I hope it doesnt go, I might ask them to reserve it for me. Or ill just buy it soon. Ive been watching videos of them and they seem really sweet. The mid-boost on the middle pickup seems awesome. All the reviews for the artist model seem awesome too, I would feel fine buying it from wildwood too. And yes I like that they go into detail, but dont over due it, they tell you the condition and thats it. I really like the guitar though, the trigger finger is getting really itchy...

Sounds like time to make the move - Your pretty much in a no loose situation -

Well known popular guitar - Still produced.
Used = Some one else took the new depreciation hit.
Great Dealer = Description will be accurate along with good photos.
Good price = Little if any $ at risk of later you decide to sell

I know, it seems like an amazing deal! I dont spend any money and im using my on campus job cash to pay for this, I almost have half of the amount saved, the rest I can use from my summer job money. My parents will flip out, but they never really understood anyway... oh well.

Chances are I'm right in line in age with your folks - I have 17 and 14 year old sons, don't automatically assume they won't understand. We're not all that bad - just old

I'm sure your parents have your best interest in mind. Your folks, as do I with my sons, " do understand " - just not agree at times. Getting your education is your primary goal at the moment, and if the Strat is going to put it at risk, then its the wrong time to tie up that much money.

There are lots of great guitars out there, and always will be. The WW EC is a very good deal - a killer, can't lose, always could fire sale for more $$$ deal ? No its not. Don't strap yourself for it.

That said, you have to " enlighten " your folks, as to why you feel it is both a good deal and worth the money. Show them how much you researched it, explain to them the financials you calculated, including some downside risk if you chose to unload the guitar quickly (max loss).

Maybe they will see that it is something that you really want to do? My sons have been know to get me to see the light once in a while

Best if Luck!

Keep us posted....

Yeah I tried all that. I told them all the details, how wildwood is an excellent retalier, how the guitar is not only a great deal, but an awesome insturment, EVERRYTHING!!! I bought an epi Les Paul a little les than a year ago and I think theyre still recovering from that. I think they dont realize that this is an expensive hobby. Im a very responsable spender, something my parents instilled in me is that you only buy what you can afford, and I can eaisly afford this, so im a little frustrated. I just got an on campus job and we all agreed that those earnings can go for whatever I need, and my money that ive been saving from my summer jobs from the last few years will go towards post-college expenses, which is a very reasonable. They didnt say no, they just said to wait a little bit (like after this school year is over) im just worried that it will be long gone by then.
