Strat neck interchange / String spacing

Hi all, I'm wondering if the new MIM necks are interchangeable with mid 70's CBS necks. I have a 75 Strat hardtail, and a '79 Lead II, both seem to have 2 1/16" E to E distance at the bridge, and about 2 1/8" neck width at 21st fret.
I'm considering buying a newer MIM strat, and putting the 79 Lead II neck on it. Does anyone know if the old necks fit on new bodies, and what the string spacing woud be on a new trem style bridge? If I have to change the nut slots, will it put my high E string too close to the edge of the neck? Thx, any info greatly appreciated.
