MIM Fender Vs. Squier. Side by side comparison.

I'm not sure which sub form this belongs in...

Hi all,
I haven't really seen any comparisions of late 90's Mexican Fenders and squiers. I'm not saying such a thread doesn't exist - I just couldn't see one with lots of comparison images.

Below are a '98 Squier and a '99 Fender.

All are stock except where noted below.

Squier:
- Replaced pickguard around early '99. (note screw between bridge ans middle pickup placement)
- Setup for floating bridge.

Fender:
- Different pickups
- Different pick guard screws
- Flush mounted bridge.

Overall, these two guitars are almost identical in parts and build quality. The Fender came with the exact same dual bar pickups that are in the Squier. Other than the fretboards, the only real two differences are the tuning pegs and bridge saddles. Everything else, including the rest of the bridge, is the same. Both guitars also weigh the same.

This is a good example of finish discolouration:

Fender is on the right:

These next two shots show the radius at the end of the neck pocket. The Squier is a lot more round. I'd consider this a flaw on the Fender:
