Just picked up 95 MIM Strat
Hey everyone, I picked up this for my Bro in law. Plays nice, has a thicker neck than most MIM's I have played. Anyone know if neck sizes were different in 95? I also heard 95 is a pretty desirable year. Anyone know basic info about the MIM strats? I couldn't find much through a simple google search. T
he saddles are at the maximum height, but the action is low. (Possibly needs a shim?) I haven't seen this very much-but I am curious what y'all think.
Stays in action even when using the Trem arm-which I thought was pretty impressive. Thanks guys!

Nice guitar jg ~! Take the neck off and see what's in the pocket, maybe a shim is at the butt making the action a bit higher on the saddles. My MN6-serial actually had a date stamped in the pocket dating it in 1997.

Maybe it's just the angle of that shot, but the pickups look really high for stock ceramics. My strat makes wolf tones if the pickups are that high.
I'd second AllroyPA's comment: there may be a shim lifting up the neck. But only remove it if you want to raise the action but can't otherwise - don't fix it if it ain't broken! The shim may be doing a good job of keeping constant action over the whole neck.
My 98 MIM didn't have a date stamp in the neck pocket, but there was one on the inside of the pickguard.

Neck shape should be "Modern C" which is the usual shape for MIM Standards. Maybe it's just the angle of the pic, but it almost appears to have a large headstock? Body should be poplar.

What a beauty of a guitar, jguitarnash! I, too, have a '95 MIM Strat (but it is in a sunburst finish with a rosewood fretboard). I dug up my spec manual the other day and it really doesn't tell you much about the guitar except for the kind of pick-ups and hardware used on the guitar (which you probably already know from looking on the internet). Many people have been saying that the early to mid '90s MIMs are poplar. Also, I have read in a lot of places that '95 was indeed a good year for these Strats. I can vouch for that - mine always sounded great and it is still going strong after all these years. I think the pick-ups in the early to mid '90s MIMs are a bit hotter than the ones in the newer Strats. Either way, you got yourself a quality guitar. Enjoy it!

I have a 95 and a 08. The neck profile on my 95 is a bit thinner than the 08. The 95 is the best playing guitar I have. I love that one alot.

Haha thanks guys. I got this axe for $225 and its definitely a nice guitar. I know my bro in law is going to appreciate it. One of the perks living in Nashville...no shortage on guitars available here. It does have the standard (smaller) headstock and i have noticed that in 95 they used a Black Fender decal on the headstock not the usual gray outlined colored logo. I can't believe the differences from older Mexican Strats to newer ones, esp. in this case.

Dude mine has the Silver outlined logo on it. The ones with the black logo are squiers generally. It should say squier series were the contoured body sticker is on the ball of the headstock. I am willing to bet it was removed from your guitar. None the less those are good guitars. In the pic below the burst model is a 95. I think you should be able to see the silver logo. Its the same as the one on my 08 strat.

I have two to choose from. No waiting. Choose today and I'll throw in a healthy dose of PMS.

Here is a pic so you can see what I mean. I have owned one of those squier series ones. They are made very well. They are made of Mexican parts and just badged squier series. Not really a squier branded one, just squier series Fender. I found this one ebay. Not mine. As far as a diffrence between the mim standards of the 90's and the newer ones, there aren't many diffrences

Sweet guitar. I'm jealous. I wouldn't mind adding one of those to my collection. And by collection i mean 3 parts casters. One day, i may own a real fender that's all stock. Haha
