I'm thinking like $250?

She offered me $300 including the $100 hard case...it's only a few minutes away....

"I bought this guitar in 2006 as a used item, with little to no wear. It is a 2004 Fender Stratocaster Made in Mexico. Since then, it has spent most of it's time in the case I bought new at the time. Looks almost brand new, works fantastically."

Usually a fair price for a gently used MIM Strat is $250-$350. Since this one has a nice HSC $300 seems like a good deal. As long as it plays nice and feels comfortable to play.

I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Going price around here on a nice MIM Standard like that one is $200-$250. That "$100 case" is more like $50 used.... so $250-$300 is within the norm.

Agreed! That one looks just the 2001 I just picked up for $200, but mine has a drill hole (see my other thread).

See if it has that little crack by the neck pocket that half of the strats out there do, then ask for another $50 off. Then open the back and act surprised that there are not 5 springs and offer $190, then act like your taking a real chance on it and come up to $200. I got a beauty with a gig bag last summer for $125 using these unorthodox tactics. Nothing personal, it's business.

A 2004 will have vintage frets and a small trem block. I much prefer 2006 and up with med jumbos and a full size zinc block.

I am always weary if used cases. There is always the possibility of them having been sprayed on by a cat at some point.

Places like GC sell used MIM's for $299 all day.

I currently own 3 or 4 MIM strats, and I have sold 4, going rate here is $275-$325 with case.
The market is flooded.

I don't think I would go over $250 for that one.

Remind me to never deal with you, not to toot my own horn but a guy offered me a piece of equipment to trade for mine, he also offered me 200 extra. I looked up at what his was worth and his valuevwas on par with mine o I refused the 200.
Life is a circle, you get what you give. I wish you best!

Thanks for your help. I offered her, and she said she's gonna wait a few days...if it doesn't sell she'll get back to me. Sounds like a plan to me.

That's a wise call on your part--not because the guitar was "overpriced" or anything of that sort, but more because there's no shortage of good, used Strats out there. When the right one appears with the right motivated seller, you'll pull the trigger. I know once every week or two I see a Craigslist ad that makes me thing "Wow, you don't see deals like that very often" only to see another high quality Strat for a decent price make its way on to Craigslist a week or two later.

Buy one in the color you want, in the condition that you want, for the price you want. If you're patient, it'll happen.

Do different years of Strats have such significant differences in frets and necks? I assumed these changes were in the span of decades, not indiv. years.

Nope, Changes happen every for years. Look at the 60s for example. an Early 62 has different appointments than a 63. Chanegs were made from 64 to 65, 66-67 changes were made, 68-70 are different from the 66-67s. Fender tries to updates every so many years.

The changes occur whenever Fender deems fit, not at some set interval.
