Can I place a MIM Strat Neck On A Squire body?

me and my dad are trying to place a MIM 96 Strat neck on a Squire body... the shape of the body was in bad shape when I got it, but the neck was even worse.... dad fixed the neck, but for some reason when we put the guitar back together... the strings just sit on the fretboard.. even with the bridge adjusted and the pickups lowered they just sit. I know that I am not the first person to ever do this so some help would be nice. Please I would really love to play with this guitar at my next show on the 28'th..

Generally the MIM neck should work. But there are Squier models with smaller bodies and models with smaller necks too.

So, it depends what model Squier your starting with.

Also, if the neck has sat a long time without strings it could need a truss rod adjustment to put a back bow into it before the strings go on. The string tension pulls the neck into shape and the truss rod counteracts this.

Also, a great many necks need a shim at end of the neck in the neck pocket.

Sorry, but there just isn't an easy answer for this.

thank you

the squire body is 3 years old.. dont know how long the previous person had it before me.... we didnt know the demensions of what the neck should sit at so if I could send pics to an email so you can see what we are dealing with here, that would be cool.

leadsingme2@gmail is mine and I am leaving the laptop on for a while... otherwise we will be going to guitar center soon.

Sounds like severe back bow which only truss adjustment can fix. Also as strat-talk mentioned, a shim often helps out. Did you adjust the bridge? Take any springs out of the trem cavity? Different gauge of strings? Could be lots of things and if you can post pics, I am sure someone here can answer the problem!
