Who has the best tortoise color?
Iam building a partscaster right now, and want a tortoise pickguard. I have a nicely colored one that I want to replace, since it's been modified in the past and has the upper waist screw hole too far forward. It cam from either Fender or AllParts. I just bought one from Guitar Fetish and am unhappy with the color and pattern. So....
Anybody have an opinion on who has the best looking brown tortoise pickguards?
While we're at it, should a "correct" pickguard have three plies or four?

Warmoth's tort is the best. It's the least "pepperoni" looking. And go with the three ply.

You could check out the official Fender but afaik they're all pretty similar. It's gonna be imitation Tortoiseshell because you're not gonna get at REAL tortoise shell. And you want a 3 ply. Some folks like the "vintage" parchment, bakelite, or other one ply. But you're standard guy like me is happy with the GFS one I got.
Just don't buy the bodies, unless you want "Ash" that is actually Spruce :/

I actually don't care too much for tortoise-shell but I have this relic partscaster with a very dark guard, I will leave it on since it looks almost black (but it is tortoiseshell!).

I have to agree with lefty, so far Warmoth has the best one "advertised". I might just try the GFS one I got, but it lacks any life to it. Heck, I can even see the lines where the pattern was spliced together before being laminated/screened or whatever. I like the colors in that pic by thaus. My old guard looks similar, I really like the orange hues showing through. I would have stuck with the old one, but the screw hole above the middle pickup is placed too far forward for my tastes.

Let me go find my tortoise Warmoth guard and take a picture. It's definitely the best one out there.
Here ya go. It has a lot going on, which is cool IMO. It's actually a little darker, but I couldn't take the picture with my flash off. So it looks a little lighter in the pic than in person.

I have ordered a few from GFS each one was very different anywhere from red to brown. Maybe other companies are more consistent on there colors.

I've had decent experience with this guy.
Pickguards
Also, it's hard to beat Allparts.

Hi guys,
A friend who has owned a music store for a long time me that WD makes Fender pickguards. Has anyone else heard this before? If it's true, I hope it helps somebody. I think it's Pickguards.com
I hope I'm giving you good info.
Thanks,
Tim
