Eric Johnson-Crossroads Video
Hi everyone. I purchased a MIM arctic white strat with maple fb a couple of months ago and I love it. Ergonomically it's so much more comfortable than my LP and I love the sounds it produces.
On to my question. Last night I watched (for the umpteenth time) the Crossroads DVD (Eric Clapton's the MC and it's the one from Texas-2006 maybe?). I watched Eric Johnson's appearance and was just amazed at the sounds he produced with his strat. To me it was THE strat sound I've always aspired to produce. My question is: Is his Fender Signature Strat a good representation of his sound? Is it a really good guitar?
Thank you from an LP convert.

The short answer would be, Yes. Also keep in mind EJ uses a set of effects that also shape his sound. Like the Dunlop Fuzz face, among others.
Here is a look at his set-up, though i understand he also has other pedals he uses as well:

Tazz, I mentioned in my earlier post that I thought it was 2006 but I actually think it was June, 2004. Has he changed his gear?

Yeah it has change a lot. Read the link. If you want to stay on top of things best thing to do is to go Eric web site and sign on his web forum cause fans of his post pictures of when his pedalboard changes and his amps change as well.

According to Fulltone's webpage, EJ also uses or has used these pedals:
'69, SoulBender, ((Stereo))Deja'Vibe, Choralflange, Fat-Boost, and Distortion Pro

Yes I know, but he doesn't have the Fender Deluxe Reverbs anymore. Eric went back to Fender Twin Reverbs and 100 Watt Marshall.
Actually here is the video from Harmony-central talking about his gear.
http://www.harmony-central.com/theat...ews_video.html
(You'll have to scroll down to find.) But like I said you will need to sign up to his web board as Eric likes changes things.
Also I heard that he going back to using Alex Dumble amplifiers for his crunch tone back in Austin City Limit days.

Thanks for that link. I had been looking high and low to post it here but couldn't where I had first seen it... His tone in these vids are just wonderful.
Dumbles are great! It wouldn't surprise me if he was going to use them.

Thanks for all the replies. As a side note, I was at my local GC this afternoon and I asked the guy if he had any EJ Signature Strats and he said no, they couldn't keep them in stock because they were so popular. He said that it was about the best Strat he had ever played.

I just picked up a 2006 Candy Apple Red EJ Strat and am blown away. This of course is coming from someone married to a '69 Telecaster. The neck took a little getting used to but once I got the hang of the neck, the guitar is pure bliss! Extremely well made and it is a tone monster. I don't even have an urge to pick up the Tele now.
