Favorite Stratocaster Hero
Im probably like the rest of you I have alot of Guitar Heros, guitar player I idolize and are a big inspiration to me from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Paige all the way to Dimebag Darrell and Alexi Laiho. I want to know is who is your favorite guitar hero who plays a stratocaster? and why

If you put a gun to my head and said I could listen to only one strat player for the rest of my life, today it would be Mark Knopfler.
20 years ago, it would have been Clapton. Or Buddy Guy.

Clapton? Hendrix? SRV? Pickin one of those would be very tough. Probably Clapton, cause there's more to choose fomr, but the best Strat Tone is probably Hendrix's Studio work...

You are shot Chad! J/k I'd have to say SRV if I had to pick one. I never get tired of hearing him play.

I would have to pick Eric Johnson, because when I first heard Manhattan I knew that the Strat was the only guitar that came with a soul... And Cliffs of Dover lets all of us know that you can shred with class, Dimebag Darell as well, I am not a metal guy, but I can't help but wonder what went through his head when soloing. Not a single Player out there could make a solo sound like any of his. Let's also consider Nuno Bettencourt....

Jeff Beck, he has taken the strat to a whole new level.
Eric Johnson, tone meister.

Mark Knoffler, SRV, Jimi, Dick Dale, Beck, Blackmore, Gilmour; It's all according to mood. It's great to have such a wide choice. I doubt I could choose overall but when you want clean MK is the one, hands down.

Only one other guy mentioned Rory Gallagher In my eyes you'll never be forgotten.
Rory Gallagher
Stevier Ray Vaughan
John Mayer
ATM it's got to be John Mayer It's become interesting to see where his career will go.

Nice to see Ritchie still gets a mention he hasn't done anything in the rock vein for some time.

If I had been asked this question when I first really got into strats, I would have said SRV hands down...
But, now and for a really really long time I am going to have to say John Mayer. No one in my book period can come close to his tone. I love his style and tone so much that I lay awake at nights trying to figure out what I can do to get a tone even half of what his is.
Plus, his "where the light is" dvd really opened to my eyes to his skills.
Let me put it to you this way...I was into Jimi and SRV for several months respectively, but I have been into Mayer for going on two years now. He really brings the appeal of the stratocaster to the younger generation such as myself.

My favourite strato'Heroes are:
John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, what an underrated guitarist!
Rory gallagher
Jimi Hendrix
John Mayer
Especially Frusciante opened my eyes for the melodic playing of guitar solos.

He's way more famous for playing a Lester but he did also play a Strat a fair bit (does now a lot too)
Peter Green.

So many already mentioned Trower, Green and one not mentioned Peter Frampton, perhaps not known specifically for strats but a great guitarist. Still I must come back to the guvnor' as my one and all time GREAT - EC
