I enjoy all of you guys, and when I was younger I loved to debate. Now that I am older, I don't have the energy or the inclination.
In my humble opinion, all Fender guitars made today, with the possible exception of some models from the Custom Shop, have the Fuller Plast undercoat, and they do not have a nitrocellulose lacquer topcoat. YMMV

rhh7 that was mass debating
Have just had a word with a seller repairer and collector of fender guitars and has been for 40yrs and heres what he had to say.
The only Nitro on these guitars is a thin clear coat over the top of an acrylic base which gives the finish that dull nitro look. This is on the H1 strat and H1 tele but not on the The H1 texas tele, the one he repaired was all acrylic. He went on to say stripping these bodies is a pain in the butt because of the under sealer which is either fullerplast or a range of other company sealers that they use. To say that these guitars are nitro is misleading but they do have enough in the product to get away with it. In his opinion this maybe why my guitar is showing signes of webbing, that the coat is too thin.
So what i gather here is Fender sell this as nitro but the finish is but a quik coat so they cannot be labled for false advertising.
Ahk i need to move on this is taking up playing time on my little bit of nitro H1 bodied partscaster.

My HW1 kicks ass, so does my 1990 strat plus. I am 43 years old and not a younger player but the HW1 is perfect for me. I don't worry about the ruining the finish, the neck and frets are great and it sounds fantastic. It does say made in USA so I still get tons of hot young chicks with it. Right on Bundini, teachable moment indeed.

I'm with you kungfu. I love my HW1 and it kicks lots of ass! Sounds awesome and I love the neck and frets. Cool looking head stock and awesome body finish. It sounds "Strat" because it is a "Strat". I get the "quack"!
Oh yeah...and the chicks love it.
