Strat Replacement Necks

Looking for any/all suggestions.
Recently, I totaled my vehicle on the way to a gig. Luckily, the only other casualty was my 1996 Lonestar. The neck snapped right at the first fret. Neck was a standard American Fender Strat neck with a vintage tint. The guitar was playing sweet at the time of the accident.

Now I am looking to acquire a replacement neck. Thinking about upgrading to flame or birdseye. Would prefer newer specs to vintage (9.5" or flatter radius). Larger machine holes for locking tuners, etc. Smooth rolled edges and good fret workmanship.

What have y'all found out there. Who should I check out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

I'd look into a USACG or a Warmouth neck..

Don't get birdseye unless you just can't live without it. It is not quarter-sawn. Flame is fine, because it's quarter-sawn, and much more stable and hard. Birdseye is definitely beautiful, but too soft. It even affects the tone.

If you like a standard dimensions Fender Strat neck, check out some of the fellows who are regulars at TDPRI on the classifieds page.

I wouldn't personally buy from www.reliablefender.com but many have, as they part out a lot of Fender necks and bodies there.

Give Allparts a look, as well as USACG webpage specials and Warmoth. I just got a $ 175 webspecial one piece maple 7.25-9.5 from Tommy, clear grain. Warmoth does a lot of mild birdseye, not flat sawn, which should prove even enough in density and stiffness to give years of great service. I find excessive birdseye or flame to be more problematic. And it is too expensive.

When you get into Fatback and Boatneck section necks, quartersawn will cost you a lot, it is far more important on skinny necks, IMHO.

Also check into Musikraft - I hadn't bought there yet.

I've bought from Reliablefender to get the neck for my partscaster, and the price was quite reasonable for a MIM neck ($150). Only downside was I had a shipping snafu (it was 3 weeks and nothing)...turns out he had some personal issue on his end, and was shipping out his stuff that week...well, he held up to his end, and I'm a happy camper.

I'd probably buy from him again on price alone.
