Pickup Died

I posted on the P/U forum, but wanted to know if anyone has had a pickup die? Like suddenly someone turned a switch off and it no longer works. Do pickups stop working, and if so, do they stop all at once or gradually fade out?
Regards.
John

Both scenarios are possible, but problems in wire, solder joints and switches can also cause the same result.

Ok, I have replaced the switch and still no go. So, I have removed the bridge P/U and with an ohmeter, I get nothing across the two connections. Can someone with a spare P/U that is good and an ohmeter tell me if you get continuity across the two lead wires from the pickup ( disconnected from the guitar ).
Thanks
John

I broke a pickup a few months ago.
I soldered the broken wires on to a larger piece of wire, then waxed the repair.

It worked great.

I asked a few others about the way I fixed it and one guy said he repaired one the same way, and it still works great....35 years later!
