buzzing up to last fret

I changed the pickguard and changed strings ( same gauge ) on my 77 strat. Now that it is back together it buzzes really bad all the way up the neck until the last fret. I've tried to adjust the angle of the neck with the tilt adjustment but it's just a hit and miss. The neck looks really straight to me but I'm not real experienced at that.

I loosened the big screws on the back and then adjusted the tilt screw then tightened the big screws back. Are those the correct steps? Is there somewhere on the internet on how to adjust the angle? Or should I adjust something else? I did adjust the saddle on the g and d strings a little higher.

Is there a reason you went straight to the neck tilt?

If you go to Fender's website ( http://fender.com/support/manuals/instr_owners.php ), you can download the setup guide for all fender guitars. It's pretty good actually. And if you follow their procedure, I think you'll find neck tilt is not the first step.

It might require just a hair bit of tightening of your trussrod or maybe even a simple saddle height tweak... Heck, it might be that you have the pickups too high and they are pulling on the strings, belive it or not, it does happen... it happened on my buddy's tele.
