Stripped truss rod nut

I have a 97 strat, MIA and i believe its a 40th anniversary edition. Regardless, the 5/32 allen nut that adjusts the truss rod is stripped. Its located on the headstock as opposed to the pickguard truss rod location...

any ideas on how I can remove the nut, fix it etc???

thanks!

Stripped as in it won't turn at all?

I know on vintage guitars of some value they'll go so far as to route out the "skunk stripe" to correct a problem like this. And then make a new skunk stripe filler and refinish the neck. On a '97 MIA it might be time for a new neck.

I've got a book by Ritchie Fliegler (now one of the top honchos at Fender, back then working for the competition) and he addresses sticky issues such as this. I'll see if I can find that book and report back.

StewMac has this kit. It's kinda pricey, but the description is very informative.

Is the nut OR the rod stripped???? I got TONS of Fender Factory (still sealed in the plastic) truss rods. Is the neck rosewood or maple, does it have the rosewood insert around the truss rod adjustment access hole, & do you have any woodworking experience??? I replaced a truss rod in an '88 USA neck with a rosewood fretboard & I have woodworking experience. I was SO frustrating I would have to leave it for a week or two & not touch it. Far as replacing it if it can't be fixed, you can always look up a seller on Ebay "reliablefender" & I can vouch for him.
