bullet truss rod nut

hello, i have an '81 strat which should have a bullet truss rod nut, but doesnt. A floyd rose was installed at one point which leads me to believe the bullet was removed so that the locking nut can fit. Now the rod nut is a smaller gold bar. I was wondering if the silver colored "bullet" is removable, and the gold rod is just whats underneath the bullet, or if the gold rod is an entirely different truss rod. So what I actually want to know is if i can simply buy this part (click link), and put it over the gold bar...or do i need to replace the truss rod with a bullet rod?http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Truss_ro...s_Rod_Nut.html

Hopefully, someone can help from the pic.

turns out the rod is original but the gold bar was a replacement truss rod nut, so i removed that and put in a bullet instead.
