Pickup question

Hello all...I wondering if someone can help me out with this. I just got a set of Fender Tex Mex pick ups for my MIM Strat. I bought them used (for a great price) but all the wires were just snipped and I got the pickups handed to me in a bag. How can I tell which is the neck, mid, or bridge PU? Any help would be appreciated.

Todd

If there are still leads (wires) to them, just no markings...the Reverse should have different color leads going into it.

If there are no leads on them at all, then you will have to do a dummy setup to verify which is which.

Hook up two coils to the guitar (wide open volume, open tone, throw an aggressive overdrive on it, and start with one pickup....you should hear loads of 60hz hum (if you live in a 110v country), then set the switch so that both pickups are active....if the hum goes away, there you go, one of those is the reverse. So pick one to swap out for the last one to verify this...if the effect goes away, then the one you swapped was it. If the effect stayed, then the one you left in there is it.

Whichever one has the "odd" wire color, is the reverse (middle) pickup.

To figure out the neck and bridge just measure DC resistance, the higher resistance pickup is the bridge, and the lower is the neck. If you don't currently own a multimeter (a device for measuring electrical voltages/resistances/continuity and current), you should invest in one.
