Hey any help would be appreciated. I've just finished wiring up my strat pickguard with a 5 way switch and as noted positions 1 and 5 are dead. Any thoughts?

hi guyfidelity,

first off, welcome to the forum.

about your wiring problem; it sounds to me like the middle pup may be wired correctly, but the bridge and neck pup are not making contact.

could you tell us more about the problem? for exapmle, why did you install the new switch? were there problems before you changed it? what kind of pups are you using?

If you have a wiring diagram, or picture, that you could post, of what you have done it would help for us to help you trouble shoot your problem.

cheers,

bob

Thanks for the help Bob. I'm building a strat not replacing an old switch. So, the p/u's are single coils from copperhead pickups. The wiring diagram is at the following link.

http://www.fender.com/support/diagra...0_0072APg2.pdf

I'm not a guitar guy I'm a drummer so I'm not well acquainted with jow to wire up a guitar so any help would be appreciated

thanks

Didja know that there are several layouts for common 5-ways? It sounds like you might be using the standard Fender layout on a non-Fender switch, like the one from Stemac.com. The difference is, the common lugs are at the other ends of the poles...

Thanks for the help. I have since found out that issue was defective switches. I went thru a brand new Made In China switch which was crap. And then one out of a parts bin from the guy who built my pickups which was dirty and defective. Went with a brand new Fender factory switch and...no problems at all. Thanks so much for the reply .
