Clapton / Johnson neck spec?

I have a 2000 Standard that I want to swap necks on (RW for maple). I also want to buy a Callaham Vintage trem system for it (I'll need a retrofit kit he supplies) see my other thread .

If the Clapton or Johnson maple necks are Vintage spec, then I don't need the more costly CG Narrow trem system. My question is this: does anyone here know for sure what spec these necks are? I assume at least the Clapton may be a Vintage spec... any help will be appreciated.

Oh, if you have one of those necks for sale, or maybe another Fender Stratocaster maple neck, I may be interested... but I'm looking for Vintage spec width to accomodate the spacing on the trem system (2 7/32?).

Well, not totally out of the question, you could consider throwing out the baby with the bath water here and taking whatever you can out of it and putting it towards a CS with the specs you want already in place... That is, depending upon your budget... In the long run it would be a better maintainer of your investment, IMO.

True, and I could do that, but I have some pretty sweet guitars already, and as a hobbyist I'm looking for a project - this is it.

Here's what I have, and what I've acquired since last post (not received yet):

2000 Black Standard USA w/ Rosewood neck & 2 pt trem. I added Texas Specials, Clapton tuners, and '62 RI plastic.

Waiting on Callaham distressed S trem (6 screw... I know, some mods will have to happen); Callaham distressed jack plate; '97 "Blackie" maple neck with aged tuners and tree; and aged white pup covers which I'll distress.

I'm not trying to build a Blackie poser, as you can probably tell by the other components which I'll retain. I will sell the rosewood neck with Clapton tuners and OEM floater trem to recoup some of my expenses.

I think the biggest challenge for me, a novice but mechanically inclined, is adapting the Callaham. I think I'll try to pull the 2pt inserts and plug, rather than use Callaham's retrofit kit.

I was concerned the 6 screw config wouldn't work with the Blackie neck, but I'm sure it will after much research - albeit with indefinite conclusions. We'll see.

I'm also considering having the poly body relic'd lightly. I think that can be done. I'm not talking "beat with a chain" relic'd... just nitro-like aging and some common body to body wear marks.

I may do a picture documentary and post it here.

Well, nothing wrong with that. Have fun and yes, share the process with some pics... As Mike says above, that Poly will probably be the 'unfun' of what you mentioned...

Oh, I wouldn't personally deal with the poly... An acquaintance of mine had aging done to his strat poly body and it actually looks pretty nice - not just scratched and gouged, but worming and fininsh separation. I just need to find out who did it and how much it cost. I'm more of a wrench turning, bolt on kinda guy. I'm leaning toward not heavy relic'ing anyway... there may be too much of that in the world today.

I almost have all the parts - Got the '98 Blackie neck (straight, good frets, tuners shot - ordered new Gotoh aged vintage); the distressed Callaham trem and jack plate came in; so did the aged white pup covers, knobs & tips; waiting on aged "F" neck plate; just about to order some Lindy Fralin Blues Specials, CTS pots and 5-way to install in a mint green guard.
